NGK Plugs....Plats or Copper?

I just threw a new set of ngk plats in the max. I know the plats last longer but I'm hearing the coppers give a better spark.

Just an informal poll to see what y'all are using.

Plats are the way to go. You won't see any measurable gains from copper.

I didn't feel any difference so not sure about gains etc,

platinum or irridiums. Coppers will not last as long as platinums or irridiums and you may not get peak performance or gas mileage out of them, I belive the oreiginal plug was a platinum, so you should at least stick with what came from the factory.

I use copper. Seems the same as plats, but a lot cheaper.

I would go with Iridium, sparks better than plats, lasts longer(120k vs 100k). and throw in that its also cheaper and you have the winner.

Myth: Copper = Better Spark

Copper will not give you as hot of a spark = Fact.

Do you want a hot or cold spark? Depends...do your research.

For 99.9% of our Maxima's, Platinums or Iridiums "perform" better and last longer, as well as have a lesser tendency to misfire and can withstand higher temperatures for longer periods of time.

The cheapest set of platinums I've seen are the Bosch, which I wouldn;t use in a Japaneese car. Denso p[lats are 7.49 each and I forget how much NGK plats are. MAybe 5-6 each? Stick with Denso or NGK

The guy I know at the store said you won't feel a difference between the two unless you were boosted or spraying.

This question pops up very frequently and here is the truth:

OEM Plugs that came with the car are Platinums.
Coppers perform just as well as the platinum but have half the lifespan, but also cost half as less.

Gas economy will not change as a result of running new platinums instead of new coppers. Unless you are boosted or using Nitrious the coppers will do as good as a job as the platinums assuming you dont mind changing them sooner and keeping a little extra money in your pocket.

They weren't? I bought 6 NGK model BKR5EGP plugs at Advance Auto last week, they're 3 bucks and change each, and they're definitely platinum.

This plug has a very thin platinum conductor maybe that's why it's less costly.

You got the G-Power platinum, BKR5EGP NGK's cheaper alternative at $3.00 OE are the Laser Platinum PFR5G-11 $10.99

The OEM laser platinums will last longer than 60K. I know someone with a 99 Maxima with 90K on the clock. He is still running the original plugs and the car runs like a champ.

I am stilll running the original OEM laser platinum plugs at 64.5K in my 95 Maxima SE. I will have owned the car for 12 years on October 1 and have no intention of changing the plugs until December 2007 when I have to go through emissions testing.

I would have been on my 3rd set of coppers at least by then, if not 4th as a result of corrosion.

OEM plats all the way for me!

Considering it's much lower price, why (if at all) is the G Power plat inferior to the Laser plat?

Well, a "laser platinum" plug is supposed to be within a higher tolerance spec because a laser was used to form the electrode. Most cars on the road will not notice a difference.
