Does this look okay?

hey guys, just wondering if this looks okay? I need my car back as soon as possible and the shop is taking there time. The mechanic said that the shoulder on the axle is preventing it from going into the transmission all the way. Anyway i took a picture of what it looks like, and im wondering if anyone else can chime in and let me know whehter its okay or not.

Thanks
Chris

Here is the picture.

The pic is small, but it looks like thats a shot of the inboard side of the axle going into, or trying to go into the diff in the tranny.

If so then thats wrong.....The shiny part , or the shoulder as your mechanic referred to it as, is where the axle seal rides to prevent gear lube leaking. Either your mechanic is not too bright, or its the wrong axle. With a little twisting (to line up the splines in the diff to those on the axle), and a little force in-ward, that axle should pop right in. And right in all the way so that you cant see that "shoulder" thing.

Good Luck
Anthony

the only thing that I could think would be preventing it from going in any further is an incorrectly sized seal (too wide). it needs to be at the OEM width for the axle to stay seated and secured correctly. The reason for this is if the seal is too wide, with the movement the car makes the seal would slowly force the axle to get unseated and pushed out, which would sooner or later cause a transmission fluid leak. Happened to me in my older gen maxima when the autoparts store gave me the wrong seal.

makes sense, but i dont understand why the axle will not go into my transmission. Now the mechanic is saying that nissan changed the axles in 96, i really dont know if its true, ive talked to a few people and they all said they were the same. and its hard to find axles in canada for ABS + LSD + MT
