Do I really need to get new rear brake calipers?

I just got my breaks changed yesterday and noticed that the rear keep holding onto the rotor. I remember reading somewhere on here a while ago that you supposedly have to get new calipers everytime the rear pads are changed or else the pads drag and heat up the rotor and wear the pads out faster. Any chance this problem will go away on its own or something I can do to fix it as right now its about $420 to get someone to fix it, $300 (his price) alone just for the two rear calipers not to mention sucking gas from dragging on the rotors all the time. Thanks.

I just had my brakes done on my 95 and they said the cailpers were fine but they re-machined all 4 of my rotors and he said the caliper bolts that let it slide in and out were stickin so he cleaned all 4 of them up for me and it was only $115. The calipers shouldnt need changed when pads are changed. I have dont many brake jobs before and havent heard of that b4 unless its just some nissan thing lol. But the caliper bolts themselves are most likely sticking and not letting the caliper release. Now if the caliper pistons are going bad then you might have to replace the calipers but that shouldnt be it. If it is the caliper bolts you can do that urself. Some new ones at autozone wont cost more than a few bucks for a set of 2. I would say to take the wheels off and replace all the caliper bolts and see if that does it. If not then it is probably the pistons inside the caliper. Hope this helps!

I got my cailpers replaced for 280...112x2 for parts and 50 for labor. The rear left one was bent (you tell me how) so dad got the rears replaced.

technically, by the book everytime you do a brake job you should be changing calipers as well. does anyone ever do it? no. cause thats f*cking expensive.

but as jwad said, if theyre sticking...then they need to be replaced.

Thanks. I'll try the bolt idea first to see if I get anywhere. Just to make sure, the caliper bolts your referring to are the 2 big ones hold the whole thing to the rotors correct?

Never heard of calipers needing to be changed with every brake job, even the dealership doesn't do that. I don't think thats true.

Try cleaning and lubing the sliding pins and boots around the caliper pistons first. Double check the tension and pull on the parking brake too before swapping any parts out.

I had to torch out the slider pins as they were siezed really bad. Get replacement boots while you are at it and do not over grease.

exactly what book are you referring to? I dont there there is any book out there that says you need to replace calipers each brake job. Calipers need to be replaced when they go bad. Thats it.
