Shifter Bushing Loose? Help! ( Fixed!! Look Inside! )

I have a 5 speed, and i believe the shifter bushing is now loose. I think so cuz it's like Churnin some BUTTA anytime i try to put it into a gear, and putting it into reverse sounds like something clunking HARD when i move it. Now i hear the shifter bushing might jsut need to be tightened, but you have to unbolt 2 bolts from the exchaust to get at it. Do you guys think i should just take it to an auto place or attempt the work myself( )...God help me i find out it's broken/ i dunno where to pick up a shifter bushing. ...

98 5 speed se.

Can anyone confirm for me if this is the bushing. I have the exact same problem with mine, shift are pretty rough and its difficult and loud to go into R. Will just replacing the shifter with a short throw fix this?

Went to meineke this mornin, When they jacked the car up we all ....turns out there's a bolt that goes from the ( what i believe is called teh shifter linkage ) or somein like that, straight through that to the tranny. Turns out that bolt was GONE. and i thought back, when i ran my car at e-town after the 3rd run i was having the problem. So meineke put a new bolt in the front part of it, back part of it. and WALLAH, $45 ripoff bucks later my cars Fixed! by 2 bolts. many told me it was the shifter bushing. i just have a habit of doubtin many. if i were you i'd jack the car up and see if you see it hanging like mine was. it should be black.
