I know there has been several posts about this topic, but can't seem to get a clear answer. I want to know if i can do this direct swap in the front? If i can't, what would i need, and if possible can i use any of my maxima braking components.

Also, the j30 components would also work as well ?

 

If you use the rotors, you will have to machine 3mm off the diameter of the rotor.

Since I can't get the link to work, I'll bump this thread. Did this ever actually take place? I'm curious exactly what else is needed. I already have the Q45 calipers, but I've never been able to get the Cobra rotors to sit properly on the hub. I read the thread about it being done on a 3rd gen, but nowhere have I seen results. I want the ability to use 16" or even 15" wheels, and that seems possible on an all-Q45 setup.

My understanding is that there is a slight difference between Q45 and J30 calipers, though I haven't seen the two side by side to verify if this:

a) is true or not
b) makes any difference


J30 calipers with maxima torque members (caliper brackets) works albeit grinding is required to get everything to line up if you use z32 30mm thick rotors. they will fit under 15" wheels.

 

op was asking if it was possible to do the swap, and the links above show that it is.

 

j30 calipers and q45 calipers are different in being that you cant mix and match torque members and pads, etc. i forget which one you can swap maxima parts with but the most importaint thing is if you go with J30 you have more options to use high performance pads (like hawk's)...for the Q they dont make $hit except oem replacement

 

If you use q45 calipers, maxima torque member and q45 rotors you can fit the smaller wheels, but you have to use maxima pads because the torque member determines the pads. The rotors have to be milled down about 3-4mm.

If you use q45 calipers, rotors and q45 toque member you don't have to mill the rotors, but you have to use q45 pads.
The q45 and j30 are not exactly the same but they are similiar. The piston comes out the back, not the 2 out the front 2 in the back like z32 calipers.
If you want to use the 13" cobra rotors I don't think you can fit anything smaller than 17" because you have to use Jeff's bracket to mount the caliper for the clearance of the larger rotor diameter.

 

I didn't know you had to mill the diameter down with Q45 calipers. If that's the case then there's no reason to ever use them imho. You can use J30 calipers and maxima torque members and not have to do any milling on the rotor, just some grinding on the torque member or steering knuckle.

 

i use a willwood dynalite caliper (4 piston) with the stock rotors with custom bracket. Im gonna use the 300zx rotors because there thicker and also cause i want to get drilled or slotted and it fits in the dynalite caliper..

the kit I'm using clears the 15" BBS mesh wheels that came stock on my i30t (clears and fits SOOO well that it looks stock and scary that there is the depth of 1.5 stacked pennies clearance)

i never tried the 16" max wheels because i dont have a set.


what do you guys use to host pics... I used to use the Apple's .MAC but have to wait for my new cred. card because some douche bag was charging gas to to my old card....

 

I have a set of 300z rotors for sale if anyone wants them.

But IMHO, I'm not sure how much more stopping power the dynalite calipers will perform on the oem 300z rotor. Alot of the improved stopping power comes from the larger rotor.

I depends on if the total area of the 4 piston caliper is greater than the oem single piston. Pedal feel should go up though.

 

You use the centering rings? Nowdays, I eliminated the rings but required the purchase of redrilled rotors (to the nissan stud size) though Automax.

But I ran the cobra rotors w/ rings for a long time with no problems.

 

Been trying to figure this out and get everything together, I searched and need a difinitive answer on this.

I have Q45 calipers (unloaded from advance)
Jeff's dogbone brackets, and centering rings
13" Cobra rotors (not redrilled)

My problem is, the drivers side bracket/tourqe member I got with the caliper from the junkyard had sheard the bolt that holds the caliper and is now oval shaped and can't be used. I'm having a tough time finding a replacment. (Napa shows nothing online, have not checked in person yet)

Can I just use the Q calipers with my Maxima brackets/pads? If so, will it require grinding of anything?
