Air Bag light

All of a sudden my air bag light started blinking tonight. I tried looking in the haynes manual for a reason, but couldnt find anything, I also looked at the FAQs and couldnt find anything. Can someone shed some light on this for me? Whats wrong now?

reset the light. its in the stickys. something about door jar 10 times in 10 seconds to put it in diag mode.

I'm weilling to bet that you have side airbags and the fault will be dude to one of those wirings.

I haven't done it in a while as my lamp seems to have gone out for good about 10 mos. ago....but from memory:

Sit in the driver's seat with the driver door open, your key in the off position.

Turn the key to on, and push the switch for the dome light in about 7 times quickly

If the lamp is still flashing, do this again. My experience is that the airbag computer would now be in diagnostic mode, where it would blink an error code back.

I never had the lamp disappear at this point, after a couple more restarts it the lamp would completely go away. Eventually, it would come back again, with the flashing.

Last Nov., I unplugged the driver side airbag module, and plugged it back in. Now the lamp has NEVER come back, knock on wood. Before doing that, I had to go through this reset about 1/mo. or more.....

Good luck.

i posted the procedure to reset it a week or two ago. scroll back a couple of pages. you've got a '98 so its most likely a side airbag wiring harness issue. wiggle it around, reset the light, and you should be all set.
i only had to reset mine once and it hasn't come back.

Where is the module you unplugged? Under the steering wheel column? My airbag light is on but it doesn't blink, it's a solid light.
