just buy it and have it shipped to a friends house.. then stay at their house one night and have it replaced the next morning..

or you could do something similar and say your muffler had a leak and was causing your car to stall or something... so you had it fixed lol

just talk to him and let him know your exaust is rusted out and needs to be replaced and you chose a cheaper than OEM alternative.
let him know your gas mileage is suffering because of exaust leaks. saving gas with the new exaust will probably be nice to hear. (and this is probably true actually)

You guys don't realize the difference in his families ethics. They have a certain frame of mind, he's now americanized and now has a slightly different frame of mind. They made certain sacrifices for him, they feel he should do the same.

My parents are picky about me spending my money on stuff, too. My dad and brother spend $1000s on archery stuff, but when I want stuff I get told no a lot. I am even an AP student with a 4.5 GPA and 27 ACT (working to raise it to 29. My parents will give me an ipod if I raise it, haha). I worked over the summer to get $1600 to pay for my insurance (it actually costs $2400, but since im on my families plan I have to be insured on all 4 cars we have. So my parents don't make me pay for not driving my mom's 6th gen se, our suburban, or my dad's work truck). I actually ened up making around $2300 (+ money I already had this summer), so I asked my dad to use his credit card to order a new sub off the internet since my old one busted. He looked shocked when I told him I spent $600. I now have to find a way to asked my mom to let me use her credit card to buy some clear bumpers and red/clears. It stinks that I don't have a credit card, because I don't want to fool with money orders.

That's how i got my exhaust. I showed him the hole in the muffler and the resonator with a 3 inch hole in it. He quickly told me to "Get it fixed the right way" So I went and bought a Warspeed Performance Exhaust. Not happy about the muffler so i'm going to be buying a new one here shortly.

My parents just don't like it because they are mad they have to spend money for my college. They will pay for it one way or another. If they pay my college, I'll spend money on car parts.

Yeah I got to admit even though I moved out my parents my dad still gets on me a little about dropping cash on my car. He loves car like I do but he's the type of guy to go out and buy a car that's already fast and leaving it stock instead of getting one and modding it. The way I see it is if you can get things to make your car faster then why the hell not mod it if you got the cash. The faster I go, the happier I am. He's probably just jelous cause my cars are probably faster than any car he's ever owned.

You don't know how lucky you are. You know how many kids can't go to college because their parents can't afford to send them? And how many can't go because their parents refuse to pay? I hope they don't pay for your college so you can learn a lesson. Wasting money on mods before spending it wisely on your education which in the end would mean more money for you.

You young guys really need to take a step back, and think about all the money you've spent/wasted on your car. When it's later in life and you've saved/make more money then it's a different story. In a few years you'll wish you hadn't spent all that money on the car and had some money saved up. You guys are so lucky you have your parents to spend their hard earned money on your education so that you can get somewhere in life. You guys should care just as much if you want to have that dream car you've always wanted, or if you want to be able to afford a home. If you learn these things now, you will get very far, and modding won't be a question, but it will be what mod is next?

No I do invest in my future. I buy everything that I need for school except for paying for school itself. I mean I try my hardest to make enough money to cover school. But there is no way I could do it on my own. I mean think about it. Its 14000 a year and I make 6000 in a year. (and less when I am inschool)

I just spend 600 bucks on books yesterday. And the about 100 bucks on random school supplies. And now I have to buy a desk and a bunch of other misc stuff.

I would, but the problem is durning school my parents won't let me bring my car with me. It has to stay home. So I can't drive any where to work from school. When I am at school I have to cross one street to get to work.

Well... I am an immigrant too (yougoslavia, came here because of the war taht was going on in my country) , I go to school and i am in college (i live in canada college is ****ing inexpensive) used to drive a crappy brown 1991 Accord (paid 800$ and i didnt invest a penny in it since it was just a beater car) for 3 years so i could save up to buy myself a maxima. Now my parents also have a different mindset but we are also well off, the only reason my dad didnt buy me a car is to teach me a lesson on how it is to get your own stuff and how proud you are to have it once it's yours. So i started talking to my dad one day how i want to drop some money into a new suspension, some rims and as things break off or need to be changed eventually replace broken parts with performance parts and i thought he'd be angry, but he said it was a nice idea as long as i dont take it too far and it consumes me....4 weeks after that talk he purchased Lexani wheels for his BMW and M3 Tailights and i am trying to stop him from throwing his money on a new suspension since Beemer stock suspension rocks and is already low as hell (2004 330i Sports Package)

But 11 years ago when we didnt have any money and came to this country my dad would have said it's a waste of time and that the car will die eventually and that it's just not a bright idea, but i guess as time moves on even my parents got americanized and so did i so we just dont remember how it was when we were miserable.

Well put, I'm very blessed to have a family that can/is willing to pay for college and other things, and I thank God for that. But It really has to be a game of moderation, not saving it all or spending it all. I work on my car because I love it and love doing it, and it's an escape from the world and it keeps me away from drugs and alchohol. But I try my hardest to not be like a lot of people I know at my school that spend so much on thier car that they have no social life (or any life for that matter) So if it's a question of wether to mod or not, take a step back and look at your life, and decide from there.
