'96 max high idle sometimes?!
Hi,
My max is acting up lately. It has 190K km on the clock and its running weird when at idle. When I start the car (hot or cold) it will idle high (1500 RPM), if I punch the throttle a bit, it will settle down below 1000 RPM. I know my exhaust pipes are going (rumble), and will be replacing them this coming weekend, but can the exhaust affect the idle? Perhaps if the exhaust leak is in the vicinity of a O2 sensor, it can affect the idle?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Yes it does.. Before it is mounted it has a "crush rib" that gets flattened out when the 3 bolts get tightened.
You'll see, on a new gasket that the rib is fully pronounced all around the edge. Using an old one might not seal all the way....but it would probably throw a cose if it didn't...right?
I also got to thinking....when you pulled the IAC last time, did you also remove the brass cap on the back by taking out the little phillips head screws? I found plenty more stuff n there to clean out. They are tight, so get a good fitting screwdriver...
I also removed the beige electrical connector that the plunger is mounted to and noticed there is a spring inside. It appears to acutate the plunger so I made sure it could travel fully.
I can't think of much else save for maybe the battery is getting weak and the alternator is trying to charge it after it is running....
