Urgent question/rant

well ive had my 5spd maxima since 2003, and i love it, it was my first car and i love the car to bits. It leaked some tranny fluid when i bought it, at the time i didnt know about the diff bearing problem. Over time the leak got worse and worse and eventually i guess it got a little low and the diff/tranny blew. Well i replaced the transmission with a used unit from the wreckors. Well i got it done at work (nissan) because working full time 9-6, 6 days a week i have absolutly no time to work on it. The mechanic replaced the tranny and i had an 01 clutch and pp installed. After about 100km of driving on it it was leaking a tiny bit of fluid, i associated that with the fact that i told them i need the car back asap so they didnt replace the diff oil seals. the week after i got the diff oil seals replaced and the mechanic tells me my axle wasnt going into my tranny correctly. He said he noticed it when i first brought the car down there but he thought maybe it was just cuz the diff was blown. Well we thought maybe it was the the wrong axle (place i got it from is notorious for sending wrong parts). We order a new one does the same thing. I talk to some axle rebuilding place and supposedly its a commong problem, they send it in, he calls me back and tells me they cant do anything..well here i am today, ive been driving my parents car for 1 month because its my only way to get to work. Im not old enough to get a rental car so thats the reason why im driving the parents ride.

Basically what my choices are now, is to find a new transmission. What me, 2 other mechanics and my freind think its a problem with the diff. I dont know but thats about the only thing i can narrow it down for. The mechanic said it didnt look like anything visabliy was blocking the axle from going in and he is really stumped on why. so as it sits right now i have to go out and find another transmission. And finding 5spd VLSD tranny's in BC let alone canada is a job in itself. Right now im at the point of saying fawk it and throwing in the axle and driving it, if it blows it blows, and ill probably end up selling the car. Its going to be hard to sell but i cant be wasting money on it like this.

My question is, in my other thread i made i took some pictures of what the axle looks like going into the transaxle. It doesnt look like its going in all the way and id really appreciate if someone could help me out and possibly point me in the right direction.

Thanks

Are you trying to install a LSD axle into a non-LSD transmission?

If the original transmission that you replaced was LSD, and the new wrecker trans is not, then the original axle will not work.

LSD axles have a two-step diameter spline that would prevent them from fully seating in a regular trans.

Are you certain that the replacement trans is VLSD? Is the driver's side axle seal a lot bigger than the passenger's side? It should be.

Why was the trans not torn apart and inspected before installing it. It could be alot of things but like olngiv said it could be a vlsd axle trying to fit a non vlsd. If that the case you need to buy a non lsd axle. Or maybe the trans you bought is a vlsd so you need a vlsd driver axle.

Could be bad diff bearings. anything is possible only way to know is tearing the trans apart if you bought the correct axle.

well ive tested it as per FSM and it is a VLSD. The driver side seal is also about twice the size of the passenger. the reason why i bought a tranny from the wreckors is, 2200$ for a new transaxle from nissan (before my discount) is rediculous on a car thats worth 6k, if i bought the tranny from the wreckors for 700, tore it apart and got it rebuilt that would be knocking about 1700. Why not just go brand new. I put in a used unit because i needed the car asap. the diff has no play that is detectible by human. I am sure of it, the transaxle makes no weird noises while going slow or anything. I am really at a loss. Im going to try another transaxle tomorrow, see if that works, if it doesnt im driving this car off a cliff.
