Broken ECU??
Broken ECU??
I think my ECU is broken, but I'm not sure. my CEL keeps intermittenly comming on and off but when I go to check the codes it just keeps saying 5-5 which means nothing is wrong. BUT when I was checking my ECU i noticed that my "stops" don't really exist. Im almost certain that the person that owned my car previous to me broke the stops because I can keep spinning the set-screw. It does seem to slow-down (i get a little more resistance) at the point where you check the codes but with little force I can just keep spinning it. Does anyone know if my ECU is broken? OR Can it be fixed? or am I better off just getting a new one? Thanks in advance. - Jon
Also, I am thinking about getting a JWT ECU maybe in the future (when I can afford it) or maybe sooner than I thought depending on what you guys can tell me about my current one. but ANYWAY can someone please tell me what this ECU does other than raising the rev-limiter? are there significant HP/TQ gains?

When/if you see the CEL light blinking, which usually means an engine misfire, don't mess with the screw. Your probably clearing codes b4 you read them. Go to AutoZone and have them scan your OBDII port to pull the codes.
My ECU screw turned to a powder the second time I checked for codes that way, so I bought an OBD2 code reader, it's just much easier that way. I think my ECU is toast, but can't find a replacement.
whats weird is, if I put the key in the ignition, and click it through all of the positions and immediately start the car, more often than not the CEL comes on, but if I immediately shut the car off and then put the key in and sit it at the ACC position and let the CEL come on it usually then goes off, then I start the car and it stays off (more often than not). I am new to maximas but I know a bit about cars and judging by the way that it acts, (coming on intermittenly and occasionally staying on) I think my ECU is Effed up, but I'm still unsure. I have had autozone check the ECU and clear the old codes but I will have to have them do it again. Can anyone tell me about the STOPS on the ECU.. is the screw literally supposed to STOP moving?
