wheels or exhaust?

I'm selling my trombone, hoping for $600, should I get some wheels and tires, pay the extra on top of the $600, or get a y-pipe and Greddy SP2?

leaning toward the exhaust, but I'm not sure how my car will look on the stock 15s once it's lowered, looking at some 5-spoke 17s with Falken tires

your thoughts?

Well are you looking for performance or looks? Good wheels and tires will run you over $1,000

I'd like both eventually, and I've got a friend that works at a local shop who's gonna help me with wheel and tire prices, so I'm looking at $900-$1000 for the wheel and tires, maybe even G35 18"s

Well you have to choose which you wanna mess with first. Do you like to drive fast? Well then Id say go with y-pipe and greddy sp2. Like to show off your car then get wheels and tires.

Both would be great. I personally would go with the performance first. With those 15's you'll be a good sleeper. I'm still running my 15's but mine are the BBS I30 rims, so at least they're light.

I would do the performance upgrades first then you can move onto the wheels.

Falken tires are always a good choice.

large rims with no drop looks weird. exhaust with no other mods look weird as well. IMO. have you thought about doing suspension work? from my experience, it is more fun to drive a car with a nice suspension setup rather than driving a car that is fast.

I'd go for the exhaust first, then save up money for rims.

Aren't tires the objects on your car that make contact with the road?

Wheels. Let's face it, the 4th gen is not a serious performance car, it's ok. There's nothing wrong with making it look good. The rice police retired long ago because c'mon xenons, led tails, optima batteries, all high $ upgrades that don't do anything for performance. At least with tires, you may get just a little more cornering, about it. Hopefully the physics police don't appear and forget about applied physics......hehe

18's are so cheap now, and they look normal as most cars have 18's standard (sporty). A nice 235/40-18 on an 18x8 looks nice imho. And to the wheel gap police, they have the same diameter as the stock 215/55-16 in 16x6.5.

But when you have rubber bands on the tires, the wheelgap is much more prominent. Aggressive wheels need an aggressive stance.

If you need new tires soon, then go with rims. You gotta keep it clean. Pipes are cool, but people see the wheels first. But exhaust is nice too. I'm as undecisive as you.

wheels are the exterior mod that gives the biggest change to the look of the car. as you are planning on dropping, i would say finish off the look and get rims. the exhaust can come later. wheel/tire setup, and then y-pipe would be good.

I'd get the pipes. But then again I like go more than show. I have stock 16's with Kumhos. I enjoy the vroom more than gawks from other drivers.

And yeah big wheels look dumb with no drop.

get the y-pipe and greddy sp2. Nice combo, good sound, more power. Keep with your stock wheels that will help you keep a decent mpg rating.

I wouldnt do wheels unless you had a drop to match. It just looks odd simply put.

You can actually get a good deal on wheels/tires if you get them used. Shop around, you have nothing to lose. Right now it depends on your priority.

Go with rims/tires. You can pick up a y-pipe for 200 later, its not THAT much money, but if you spend 600+ on exhaust now, it might be hard to save up another 600-900 for rims/tires.

depends waht u want first........like 4X4Max said y-pipes are cheap....me i went with suspension then wheels...and my y-pipe will come this winter....i made my own exhaust when i worked at a muffler shop so it only cost me a $40 muffler and tip....i know ur in KY so winter may not be an issue so maybe wheels are something u can keep on the car all the time and may want to get those.....but big wheels with no drop looks kinda iffy

great idea, i have a 3200$ yanagisawa sax i could sell...hello supercharger .

I'd say wheels first. If your going to draw attention to your car with exaust, might as well have something to look at. just my .02.

So true! I agree, go with the wheels first. The wheels are a performance AND aesthetic upgrade (granted they're relatively lightweight). It's so fun driving a car with a good suspension than one that merely goes fast. I mean, going fast around curves and having a car that rocks side to side and showing its fender-liners ain't exactly a hot set-up. And think of it this way: the gains you get in performance with a y-pipe is most likely no where near the gains you get in performance with a lowered suspension and good wheels. That's my opinion, and that's why I'm going with wheels first and y-pipe/exhause second. Good luck with your decision.

Definitely go wit the y pipe and exhaust, with that you are looking at serious horsepower gains(probably 15-20 at least). I am saving money to do the same thing to my car right now. I had wheels on my car (Excel 10 spokes that came with it) and they arent worth getting unless you get something light. But i guess it is all what you want.

Having personally been through this decision recently, I went with the ypipe and a high flow cat, Greddy is coming next. The tires that came with my car are EXCELLENT (Dunlop FM901s), so I wont get new wheels until i wear those ones out. I also don't want to lower until next summer (winters in canada are a *****). It all depends on your situation.

leaning toward the exhaust, but I'm not sure how my car will look on the stock 15s once it's lowered, looking at some 5-spoke 17s with Falken tires

your thoughts?
lol. that just rang a bell in my mind. haha your trombone.
i have my alto sax sitting around somewhere in my house since HS. havent touched it for 5-6 years. prolly get a solid 300-500 for it

I could get $6000 out of my Tuba, but my parents would kill me, it was a gift for making All-state band two years in a row and for making first chair in Kentucky's youth orchestra, plus I'm still playing it, but yeah, the stuff I could do with tha cash
