electrical help! 98 i30

hey guys last night i noticed that my pass. rear brake light was not working so i went to a super market and got some cheapy taillight bulbs and replaced it...seemed like it worked fine at the time but the next morning i noticed that when the headlights are not on when i apply the brake my front signal lights turn on and turn off once i let go of the brake pedal, i also noticed that the digital clock and guage cluster does the same...after a few min of driving it stopped but them i noticed that now my signal lights and rear parking lights are not working so i check the taillight fuse and its broken so i change the fuse and now the parking lights work but when i apply the brake the signal, digital clock and gauge cluster turn on and off and again after a few min of driving the fuse blows again....where do i start? anyone have any simalar experiences????

thanks

Greg

Have you made any electrical changes since the last time everything was for sure known to be working properly? Have you installed a new head unit, alarm, foglights...anything? If so, go back and verify all your connections are correct. I know that when I replaced the factory radio in my girlfriend's 3rd gen a couple years ago, there was an "illumination" wire on the new deck and an "illumination" wire in the factory radio wiring in the dash, so I thought it made sense to connect them. After doing that, I got all kinds weird crap happening. It was blowing fuses every time I touched the brake pedal, instrument lighting going out, etc. Disconnected that wire and then everything worked properly again. Hope that helps.

Is the bulb, sometimes the contacts for high/low meaning parking light and stop arc. What will happend is that when you press the brake with the lights off they will turn on. I had that issue before with cheap bulbs.

ok heres the update:
it was the bulb that i used for the brake light i didnt notice that the bulb i bought from the super market was a single filament (105) when the stock bulb should be a dual filament (3496) so its all fixed!

thanks for the help!
