all these problems in 2 days.

So 2 nights ago im leaving work, I go out to start my car and as i put down my parking brake....i realize there is no tension....i guess the cable snapped. Its funny, all these ricers beat on their cars and never have a problem, I use mine soley for parking, and boom broken.

A few hours after this happened, I finally calmed down and decided to go out, I go out and start my car and now the air bag light is blinking. I reset once before, but now its back. I cant figure out why.

And again last night, i threw another code...P0443 which points to Evap Purge control valve.

And to top it off...this morning I go to leave for work, and find out my sunroof is leaking. All this in one shot....really kills the joy of having the max.

Basically ive had it with this shizzle....im taking the car to be fixed. Im actually even tempted just go to the dealer (shoot me). How much do you think it will run me to have this stuff repaired, replaced, or reset. Or should I just set the car a blaze?

At the dealer, here's the formula: (What it should cost) X 2.5748.
At a non-Nissan dealer mechanic: (What it should cost) X 2.2493.

CSB, Your number is a little off for dealer pricing... Move the decimal over

Don't take it to the dealer. Take on one problem at a time. Might wanna fix the parking brake first. Then the leaky sunroof, then worry about the air bag. BTW the dealer could charge you thousands to fix the air bag light. (they will say they need to replace the whole airbag system)

Why would you fail for a leaky sunroof? When I lived in the Northeast I had to go trough inspection...but don't ever remember reading anything about checking the sunroof. Maybe is different in NY.

I agree with attacking each problem one at a time.

Check the FSM and see how envolving it is to replace the cable. I dont know for sure but It might turn out to be an easy taks that wouldnt take too long.

Air bag: You want to go the the dealer as a last resort. They will charge you a lot. Check it out again

EVAP: if the purge valve is what and where I think it is, test and make surei ts bad before replacing.

Well.....i cant fix the parking brake myself because i dont have a jack or jack stands that go high enough and i cant use ramps.

Air bags....I more or less have to go somewhere.

And as far as the purge valve goes....ive seen post after post on this thing...and no one has seemed to fix it. Also....I had the vent valve and charcoal canister replaced around this time last year because i was throwing codes for them. A few days after having it fixed this code came up...I reset the ecu and it came back once in a while....now it comes up every day.

air bags just reset it. your 98 has side air bags i bet you money on it the fault is there.

evap purge. check your gas cap. evap system starts there and moves on forward.

parking brake... new cable i guess. only real fix you should get.

sunroof.. i know nothing about.

all these items at the dealership would run you $50 diag each item plus parts.

evap system could be clogged with carbon build up. needing a purge valve and charcoal cansiter. both items are 100+ a peice and they should be about 150$ to install if it needs those 2 items

airbag fault. watch out they might sell you an airbag. which you dont need. its just a faulty connection to the sideairbag i think it needs a new overlay harness.

The airbags I belive is a defect in the harness or something. I kept fooling with it every few weeks with the flashing, the push the door switch thing, etc. But last year I unplugged the driver side module and plugged it back in--never came back since, maybe 9 mos. now. Of course one can verify that the airbag system is functioning by watching it do its check when the key is turned to on.

The EVAP thing is no joke if you ask me. I listened to the forum and attempted to fix it myself. It was not a good use of my time. Finally, I paid the dealership the big bucks (over $400) but the thing is the light has been gone ever since. Parts get replaced in this job, it's not one of those pour kerosene into the openings and it will clean itself out jobs. I don't like paying like the next guy, but I'm also not into jobs where there's a 50/50 chance or less of success either!
