idle problems
idle problems
well after a long time of trying to figure it out i still am having trouble with my idle. the car idles at about 1000-1150 rpms. i can get it to go lower with the TPS disconnected. but when i get it to the rpms that it is supost to be at the engine shakes really really bad. I thought it might just be my tach but i really dont think so. i have a new set of gauges on the way but the thing is the car is really hard to stop and takes off pretty fast without hitting the gas. also it just sounds too high. The things i have done are change the IACV nothing happend. Adjust the throttle body screws.. still nothing. cleaned out the throttle body. check for vaccum leaks, havent found any. tested the tps it seems to be in working order. what else could it be?
ok well i just went and tested the TPS. Its supost to have 5 volts at the first pin.it has 0 volts at the 1st pin with the car in the on position. also when i connect the meter between pins 2 and 3 when i push the throttle the ohms are right where they are supost to be. does this mean my tps is bad even though it is giving the right ohms?
i dont have any codes at all i pulled them 2 days ago and i didnt have any codes at all. also another thing i have no idea if it has anything to do with this but my car back fired the other day and also somtimes smells like gas and other times doesnt.
Did you ever get your problem resolved? I am having a very similar issue with my 95 Maxima with automatic transmission. It idles at about 1000 in gear and then jumps to about 1500 in park/neutral. Nothing seems to make a difference such as bumping the gas or turning on/off electrical devices. It is quite frustrating and I am not sure where to start. Should I start with the IACV, the TPS, or the throttle body. I have searched this site for answers as well as general searches on the internet. I have found one article that mentions cleaning the IACV but would love to get some input from other Maxima owners.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.
thats just it. No hesitatons. As a matter of fact, while I'm driving there are no problems. Its just when I stop, put it in park, or crank it. The poor engine just doesnt want to slow down. I have checked the cables to make sure there are no hang ups. I had a buddy put it on a Snap-On computer and the only thing they found was the rear O2 sensor. Other than that, no codes. Found out yesterday that the radiator is leaking so I have a new one of those on order.
