is it hard to take the gauges section off

If you're talking about the gauge cluster, fuel, speedo etc,
this comes off relatively easy, there are a few screws underneath the steering column, which removes the lower section of plastic under the steering. Then remove the surround off the actual steering column. The black surround on the cluster comes out with the removal of 2 screws, the rest just clips out. There are 2 or 3 screws which bolt the cluster into the dash, undo these and unplug the looms.
Good luck , it took me about an hour to remove and replace.

Those steps that amixam69 has available on his site or very helpful. I was just following the pics this weekend. One thing that I had a problem with was the Dash. It has four clamp like things holding it. 2 in the middle, one on the left and one on the right. Besides that it was pretty easy.

bulb covers ? you mean the little blue condom like thingies ?... i don't think they affect the shade of the light at all...
i put red bulbs in, and left the little covers on... it did not effect it
i think maybe they help make sure the instrument panel doesn't come in direct contact with the bulb or something
sure they are slightly blue... buti don't think it's anything to worry about

it almost looks like
the gas gauge is red, then the MPH is blue until it gets up to like 80mph, here it turns red...
on the rpms same effect, almost looks likt the redline isred because of illumination... my oil ggue is red though

Re: don't worry, just don't throw them out
Tha looks very sharp! I'm thinking of changing mine, I want it to looklike the new Volkswagon dashes so I'm not sure what bulb would do it. What type of bulb are they? Are they the 194 (wedge) bulbs? also what is the color of the lighter bulbs that you used in your setup?

Re: The bulbs
the bulbs are size 194 the same size bulb you use on the bumper lense next to the blinker. I used APC's blue bulbs cause they will last alot longer than the pep boys/walmart cheapo blue bulbs. They cost $5 a pair and look soooo good at night. I also changed the bulb down by the shifter where the "P,R,N,D,2,1" is, looks cool too. My next mission is to do the Climate control module bulbs to blue too, then maybe that ring by the ignition key hole. That will be kinda tricky. Overall the whole job start to finish took me about a 45min in the dark! Its so simple to take the dash apart, thats why i love these Japanese cars, very easy to work with. The hardest part was gettin the trim around the gauge's out, dont worry cause its very flexible.
To do the light down by the shifter was even easier:
1)Pop off the trim around the shifter
2)take that out and then remove the ash tray - its one screw to the left and 2 clips to the right of it
3)then unscrew 2 black screws where the 2 pieces of the center console meet (right on top)
4)then look inside, down where the shift mechanism is
you will see 4 silver screws attahed to the frame of the shift module(on the 4 Corners around shifter)
5)take these out, then slide forward and pull up to gain acces to the bottom of the panel(will be tight in there)
6)there will be a blue wire going to the bottom of the panel where the "P,R,N,D,2,1" is, twist and pull out the bulb fixture, its the same bulb from the gauge cluster size 194
7)switch out the bulbs and your done
8)now work in reverse order to put it back together
hope this helps any of you guys out!!!!
I will post how to do the climate control lights once i finish!
