Smoke comming from exhaust under hard accel
How much smoke are you talking? If you have an auto and floor it.. The car may downshift and cause a puff of black smoke. This is caused by the RPMs going up and the ECU telling the engine to go rich. So lots of fuel gets dumped into the chambers and the result is smoke comming out of the tailpipe. The smoke should go away after a sec.. if it lasts through the whole time you are on the gas.. you have a problem.

smoke
White smoke under acceleartion: rings
white smoke while decelerating: valve guides
black smoke while accelerating: car running too rich
black smoke while accelerating really hard: carbon deposits blasting off the valves, pistons, etc and could be too rich.
Don't worry so much about the black smoke. Its the white smoke you need to be worried about.
Oh yeah, if it's white smoke first thing in the morning, don't worry about it either. A puff of white smoke is not abnormal-oil leaks past the rings/valve guides while the car is sitting and burns at startup. Also, evaporating "smoke" at startup is normal (I think you already knew that). It's condensation. In fact, it's better to warm cars up entirely so that water doesn't sit in your exhaust and rust it from the inside out.

It's normal to see some black smoke->
under hard acceleration. Reason is under WOT, the ecu no longer refers to the O2 sensor for tuning. The ecu defaults to pre-set ignition and fuel maps. Typically the fuel maps are set rich for hp, cooling effect and safety. Safety being ping prevention.
I was complaining about some excess exhaust in the morning but my friend told me not to worry about it because it's just water left in the pipes, I don't know how much truth is too that, but he was right in the fact that he said drive it for a little bit and it'll be gone, and it was. He also said when I floored it (Note: not from a dead stop ) that it looked good because the back dropped and I took off, but there was a small puff of black smoke that smelled, but you guys explained that up above.

Whenever i tailed my friend with is 2000 GTi he had smoke coming out every time he shifted, a little white smoke and i think its cause he was revvin at same time he was shiftin, not sure. Of course this only happened when car was a little cold and we were driving like animals.
