5th gen Stock Catback on 4th gen?

Does anybody know whether 5th gen stock catback exhaust fit on 4th gen? The reason I am asking is because my stock catback is rusted through, and I want to install the 5th gen muffler..... if the B-pipe fits, less custom work to do.

I have looked at it, since the rear beam is setup opposite on each car I think this ones a hit or miss, and mostlikely this hasnt been done yet. It looks to me as if the 5th gen cat back may bolt on to a 4th but not vice versa. Also the length of the b pipe may be different, since you cant eyball that. My freind has an I30, so if no one chimes in I could get some measure ments and take another look.

Thanks for replying. If you could take a look at your friend's I30 that would be great.

I suppose if we have catbacks from each gen (even aftermarket ones) side-to-side, we could solve this once and for all.

Hmm...come to think of it, it might be good thing to call Budget.....I believe they have 5th gen B-pipe as well...right?

Called Budget today and inquiry about my case (has 4th gen, wants 5th gen muffler fitted, which B-pipe should I buy)...and the guy who creates those exhaust told me that the B-pipes are different in length. The 5th gen is significantly shorter, thus he advises me to buy the 4th gen B-pipe and custom made a connector to the 5th gen muffler.

Oh well, worth a shot.

Perhaps I should call them if I could send the muffler and have them rework it so that I could just bolt them on. I asked around and most shops quote "US$ 200 if not more" for cutting the 5th gen pipe, weld a flange and bolt on the cat-back. I figured it would cost maximum of US$ 160 or so.

wow, they charged me $10 to cut my 4th gen pipe and put it on the 5th gen muffler and i put it back on. Maybe because, i took the muffler off and took the shops both rear sections in hand ... Anyway, if you can find someone with a welder and cut and weld yourself or get them to do it, and get a shop to put it back on and the rest of the exhaust

just my .02cents

Thanks JSutter. I just learned that a local junkyard might have the whole 01 and 02 car. I am about to go there next week and check it out myself. It's kinda hard to find a good condition 5th gen muffler in this salty Wisconsin.

ha thats funny. i had the 00 i30 muffler to sell, but it got left at the dealership when we bought a new one. it was in mint condition, just needed a flange.

Is there a chance to get it from dealership? Is it the same as the 5th muffler?
