This may be a repost but my knock sensor on my 96 has been long gone since i owned the car... I was wondering if replacing it would offer any significant power gains? My car has 176k and has been taken good care of, she still seems to still have great power when u step on the pedal with the ks gone.... Would replacing the ks be worth the money and the cuts?? Thanks

 

if its bad yes /thread.........and the with the proper tools its not hard.....swivels and extensions are you friend

 

you'll most likely recieve nice MPG gains once you do change it. That was my first mod on my car...lol

 

i noticed a huge difference after I changed mine. find someone with small hands if you don't have the tools. It feels so much better with a new KS.

 

you can get one on ebay for about 75$ or so, and yes its worth it! the MPG will improve much better.

its tedious but easy job. use small hands and long arms if available to you!

 

nah dude don't do it, all these guys are so full of it. knocking is good for your engine and you'll actually get better gas mileage with it broken. plsu retarded timing is actually good, I mean do you wanna tkae advantage of an engine that knows what its doing? I dont. I'd rather have one thats more of a retard so I can do w/e I want to fool it.

Personally I took mine off and my performance shot through the roof. Think about it, its a $25 part. It cant be that important, thats why it breaks so easily, cause it's not needed. All a big scam for more money. Its kind of like 02 sensors, they dont do anything. Watch, take them out and throw them in the trash and plug the holes, less restriction = more performance.

You guys have any recomendations on certain parts to buy for this project? I've read some posts with guys having swivel joints break and all while trying to fix this. I want to do this once and make sure it's right. Any help?

 

na man, this is not hard. you can do a search, there is about one million posts about this. just use a long neck a rachet, and swivel joint. if you find one that is magnetic then thats a plus, or just keep a magnet handy. then get it off. then put the new one on. in fact, the only hard part is getting it back on.

getting it back on is the hard part - this requires small hands and arms, and i would say thats the easiest way! kids will be great for this, but there arms are not that long. mabe a 15 to 17 year old, ohh alot of women can do this too! my girlfriend did it for me (ya shes a michanic too) she has small hands and arms. getting the screw in place is a pain with a magnet, and sometimes it will drop, so be carefull.
