dealers are kind of high... you could get a 97 for that much off of autotrader.com. your best bet is to look there and e-bay. Then resort to the dealers. A lot of the search results from autotrader will be dealers but with reduced prices. Hope this helps

DOn't pay more then 9K.

It's plenty much for that mileage.

10k is a little too much for a 95 SE 5-speed.... Of course since that's just the starting price, I'd say you can knock off around $2000 depending on what options are there and the condition of the car. 74k mileage for a 95 isn't that bad, just a tad on the high side depending on how previous owner used it... If dealer won't budge, I'm sure you can find a better deal with a bit more patience and searching..

Buying a 5 speed from a dealer

1. Leave your business card with the dealer with how much YOU will pay, like $9500.

2. Leave and don't call him again.

There are 2 factors on your side and should help boost your confidence;

a) It's a 5 speed. 90% (maybe even as high as 95%) of car shoppers out there will pass that right up, and the dealer knows that.

b) The economy is tough right now, so dealer traffic will be lower than usual.

Make the dealer realize the YOU have the upper hand.

Then, once the deal is done, you can smile that "gee-whiz, boy do I luv this car!!" silly grin you can't wipe off your face Never let the dealer see that face. He'll work it for all its got.

Good luck

YEA!!!!

Good idea man, I should be entering the world of a newer better, hopefully manual car too.. as soon as I get a reliable job so I can pay for it.

Do NOT pay no 10 grand for a 95 5spd, I would pay no more then 9.5k if it is in mint condition for it's year, low miles, fully loaded with everything else except auto tranny and black on black leather.

Check out Autotrader.com and visit some private lots, you can find that car for a lot cheaper then freakin 13 grand, I can buy a 97 SE 5spd loaded for 11-12k.

To negotiate, don't show him a lot of excitement like you really want the car bad as you really do.. Act cool and tell the dude how much you can honestly spend, give him some idiot story about high college tuition and how you will need to spend another few grand after you buy the car on registration fees and taxes etc.. Also, look for any little bull**** details that may be wrong with the car in appearance or even mechanical. I knocked off 2 grand from the spot I got my max at by pointing out details like scratches, torn off door moulding, small dents, oxidized stock rims.. also, make the dude understand that it will be hard for him to get it off his hands because it's a 5spd, act like u aren't thrilled about it being a 5spd... Tell the dude if u were to spend that much $$ youd rather go and get yourself an automatic.

WHat sucks is that u spend mad $$$ on your current max.

$12999????

Is this car loaded to the hilt or what?
It really depends on your market and demand on what is a fair price but I would think that you could get the price under 10G's. I absolutely love my 95SE. Only 66,000mi and runs like it was new...

Hmm, well a lot of good tactics have been mentioned here already. But I'd say the ultimate tactic (that I've seen in use more than 3-4 times) is to start walking out after you've shown enough interest/tried doing some initial bargaining. On my purchase of a 95 GXE 6 months ago, I haggled the dealer down from an opening of $10,900 to $9,300 just with simple stuff like I'm a college kid, my limit is $10k, I found lower-priced similar models, mileage, minor dings, etc... When he wasn't about to budge anymore, I stood up, started taking steps to the exit, and said something along the lines of, "well, thanks for your time, [name of cheeseball salesperon]. I'm interested in the car, but there's really no way I can afford it. Guess I'll just look around a little more."

His reaction: "Oh, don't go yet, Mr. _______ (your last name =D). Ok, okay, lemme talk to my boss first."
Comes back a few minutes later, "Ok, Mr. _______. My boss said the best he can give you is $8,800."
And that was my final price. =)

ive been looking for a 95 for a few weeks now.. and im looking around the 6000 dollar price range.. autotrader is the best place to look there are tons and they also go QUICK.. if u find a good deal, call them fast, many cars ive seen and called are gone within a day of them posting up their ad.. i just found one off auto trader and its from a dealer around here for a good price.. 7500, a 95, and gxe.. but the good thing is its only got 40,000 miles on it.. do you guys think thats a good deal? and jibaromax, i think that is too high of a price.. look around some..u may find a better deal..
