need bolt help. hub adj. nut
k so im trying to get my axles off but i cant take that huge *** spindle bolt off. i had a huge as like 3 foot long wrench and it was flexing and the nut wasnt moving. anyone know the exact size of the bolt so i could get a socket? or does anyone have a good technique to get that **** off?
thanks a lot

I will confirm its 36mm.
Best technique: use an impact wrench.
Without air tools, I do ok using a long breaker bar and cheater pipe (actually the pipe is half of my jack handle). I then take a piece of steel bar and run it across a couple of the lugs and support the end of the bar with an extra jackstand. That keeps it from rotating while I break the nut loose.
It may be necessary to soak the nut in PB blaster for a little while and/or apply some heat to the nut. Don't cook it too hot though - you don't want to damage the seals/bearings/grease inside the hub.

As they've said, 36mm axle nut socket is what you need (I think 1.5" is the same, but not sure). Impact is your best bet (my $100 electric from Home Depot works great for that), or get a long breaker bar, put it on the nut through the wheel and laying on the ground towards the rear of the car, and attempt to back up a little bit, should break it loose. That's for driver's side, passenger's you would lay it facing forward and inch forward a little.
well im in process of taking trans out to rebuild so i gotta use an impact. no starter battery or any sensors in it. i hafta take axles out to start unbolting it all, oh and drop center crossmember and engine mounts...fun i know
but yes thanks very very much guys

Dropping the trans isnt as bad as you might think it to be. Only problem I ran into was getting the passenger axle out. It was seized together where you undo the 3 bolts. I ended up removing the whole bracket and then knocking the piece apart.
yeah...i hafta replace the third/fourth shift fork and re-sychro it so that it doesnt break again...im looking into making a 6 psi turbo kit...anyone know what kinda clutch i should get? will a stage 1 do?

yeah...im basically gonna ghetto rig a remote turbo system with a wrx turbo and intercooler for like 5 or 6 psi...whatever that the injectors and maf and **** can cope with is what i'll run max. im getting that **** for like nothing. its just like a lw flywheel and a stage 2 or w/e clutch

yeah i got it out finally...took two people to get those mothers out....almost there with the removal now....its a great learning experience on how easy **** is to work on. like a starter or a slave cylinder for the clutch...pretty damn simple
