is this bad?

so today i was driving up one of the steep hills in salt lake city. i pulled over, kept the car in drive, and let off the brake petal. i was expecting not to roll back, but my car started to roll back very slowly. is that bad? arent automatics not supposed to roll backwards while in drive?
otherwise my tranny is perfect, 140K miles, shifts smooth as butter.

They will roll back if the hill is steep enough.

No the car will roll back. If its a little incline then no it really wont move. But if the hill is steep then it's more likely to roll back a little. No worries

If the slope is steep enough, automatic vehicle will roll backward even thouh it is on gear "D".
