Help! Car wont start

Let me preface this with the fact that the car drove fine last night as well as this morning. Last night I was trying to replace my fuel filter and was unsuccessful at it so I just rehooked it and it is hooked in fine. When I try to crank the car I get all the dash lights and the stereo starts up but I am unable to get anything to happen with the engine. It is as if I am just sitting there with the key in position to hear the radio. I do get a small click sound when I try to crank it sounds almost like the power coming on or something, it comes from the interior of the car. My car is a 99 gle with about 105k miles on it. If you guys have any idea on how to fix this I need your help. I have a job interview tomorrow and would hate to have to get a rental, help!!!

I had a similar problem like that, could be the key, as crazy as it sounds. Thats easy enough to fix, but gotta have a Nissan dealer do it. Just my experience...might help.

I tried checking the battery at checker today and it was good to go. I may have to look into the key like you said, how much does a new key cost from nissan?

Okay, you have a 99, it's most likely that your immobolizer fucked you over. Put your car is ON mode, don't crank, and see if the security light is lit, if so, get your car towed to the dealer and get your keys reprogramed, should cost under $100.

I had that happen on Sunday. I'd get in the car, turn the key to "start" and it wouldn't even make a sound. It turns out I had to push my shifter forward; It wasn't fully in park. As soon as i did that, it started right up!

heynow: I thought the same thing the other day about the shifter. I tried to push the shifter to park but it was already fully there. After that I tried to put it in gear and back to park which also didnt help. From what people say it sounds like I should get a new key. Oh yea no problems since which is good because I have been going to job interviews (knock on wood) O yea how long does it take to get new keys made at the dealer?

Ummm, did you see what I wrote? Just go get the car towed to the dealer and they will reprogram your keys, trust me. And YES! you need to bring the car with you.

I had the same thing happen this morning. Turned the key and it just sat there. CLICK. After a couple times, it started up. At first I thought maybe it was the ign switch, but I replaced that last year. Can they go bad that quickly? It's done a couple times but today was more of an issue than usual.

I'm thinking that it may also be the battery cable or terminal. A few months ago, I needed a positive batt terminal (was very loose), but instead of replacing it, i used a different bolt to make it tight again. I think that's when it started happening.
