getting OEM shifter **** off

I broke the shifter loose, and it has been unscrewing but it doesn't seem to be getting any looser, does it snap off or how the heck does it come off, could it have been rusted on or could the threads be bad? 95 gxe 5-speed

my stock shift **** recently got ****ty, so i took it off. it takes an adjustable wrench and quite a lot of force to get off. also put a rag over the shift **** if you plan on putting it back on so you dont rip the leather.

when u say takes a lot of force do you mean just a lot of loosening/turning force or do you have to rip it off/up?

force means you need to torque with power....don't rip it off

yeah definatley dont rip it off if you like having a usable transmission. twist it counter clockwise with the adjustable wrench. also using the cloth might help, might not, its just a suggestion. good luck with it!!

I tried to remove it without damaging it - no way that was going to happen. Once the leather tore off (using a towel too), I put the wrench over the plastic underneath and tore that up some before it broke loose. I did have a new OEM **** ready to go, since I figured this would happen.

Nissan used loc-tite on the threads to keep it from coming loose. Makes life a real treat if you try to remove it.

It may seem like it's not coming off. But usually with constant counter-clockwise turning it should come off. They are threaded on very well. Yours could be damaged, but it is likley that it is scwed on very well.

my stock shift **** came off pretty easy. just apply force with the wrench and towel. it takes a really long time of spinning to remove the actual **** though.

I had the same issue. Did not know how to take it off. So I asked the man in Pep Boys and he told me to just unscrew it. It will be hard at first b/c it has never came off. Trust me he said it will come off.

With a hard turn two minutes later it came off. Now I have a new shift **** and my old one as a back up.

holla @ cha boi,

nismo doesn't even make a short shifter for the maxima. maybe that should be the first clue.

In the description it lists it as a BMW shifter, then goes on to list it fitting on a slew of Nissans.
