Y-pipe install = Big Problem lots of $$$$$

I got my Pipe install yesterday and i have to say, very nice gains but at a price. I thought to myself i would add the test pipe that Budget gives you and behold a CEL. At first i thought it was the o2 sensor but after i got the codes pulled it showed that the emissions standards fall below threshhold. So i am assuming the cat.
Went back to the shop that installed my pipe for me and he is telling me that he cut up the cat because the bolts where rusted on there so i get charged another $150 for a new catalytic conve. This is in addition to the $100 for the initial install.
Bisides that, my car sound like a f#$king truck with open headers so i have to get the muffler changed before i get pulled over. I am trying to host the vid right now and i will try have it up as son as i convert it to wmv. I couldnt rev the car up too loud because i am in the middle of the street. You know how it is.

Here is the Vid: maxima with complte 2.5 exhaust + test pipe

call budget, i have theirs in my garage(not yet installed). It looks really nice...it's originally a magnaflow model, but they modified it to flow even better(intake part and exit part of it). They sell it for $80 canadian, not expensive at all

Or a Warpspeed high-flow. It's also a modified Magnaflow, and comes with all the necessary hardware.

I think i might have to wait!! Just checked my accounts and i dont want to put myself in a bad situation and i refuse to chrage my credit card. I am trying to get out of debt so is it okay if I drive the car like that for a little while with the CEL light on because at this point i dont want to cuase anymore damage to the vehicle. The inspection is due in 9mnths lol.

it sounds like you didnt know what you were getting into when you started this.

a hi flow cat or a test pipe will give you NO significant gain, and for the price they cost, its just not a good thing. if your boosted then i would consider it. one or two hp gain mabe 3 at max just for 100 to 200$, bah, not my cup of tea, at least thats what i hear on alot of posts here on the .org

unless your boosted headers wont do anything, so keep with the stock manifold. the only thing those parts are going to do is make your car noisy.

slap a y-pipe, bpipe and keep the stock muffler for a quiet ride, use a greddy sp2 catback for a nice sounding ride, use a stillen catback for a loud ride... but again the muffler will give you no performance gains, they only choose the sound that your car will make.

the power gains are only in the y-pipe and b-pipe.

my guess is, with the CEL on, your gas millage will be terrable and with gas prices still slightly high (in some area's it has gone down)... your going to pay alot for gas.

what kind of bolts do they use to connect the y-pipe to the cat and the cat to the b-pipe. im going to be doing the y-pipe soon, and the catback soon after that and instead of worrying about the rusted hardware, ill just buy new stuff.
how much do they cost and how should i get the rusted stuff off myself. im not going to pay a mechanic to do these mods for me.

I havnt seen budget advertise the regular cat. Only that test pipe. The high flow cat is dierct bolt from budget? I was thinking of magnaflow cause it's actually a cheaper cat then most, but it needs to have flanges welded on so that would cost me money. I'm hoping to get everything to bolt right on. Any links to the budget high flow (not the test pipe)?

Well try to change everything at once. That way you can basically unbolt the entire exhaust. Need new bolts, maybe hangers too (not too expensive from the auto store). Also you'll need the things that crush into the y-pipe. Not sure of the actual names...but all that stuff should be replaced. Hopefully someone can give a better list since I need to know the exact names as well.

you use 14mm nuts to conect to the studs of the headers to install the y. I believe it is the same size to connect to the cat. I ended up breaking the studs on my cat because they were so freaking rusted, it just so happens that my friend had a warpspeed test pipe in his closet so I just threw it on and still have it on, weird tho I haven't thrown any codes and my car rides fine

First off, i knew exactly what i was doing when i did this mod. Secondly the group deal included the FREE TEST pipe so i dint think there was a problem(It was free is what i am gettig at) and by the way i search through the forums before i do anything to my car. This is my second maxima that i have had I just wasnt expecting to get a CEL from a test pipe. Its not a big deal. There are tons of people that got the free test pipe from budget. I already asked that and i know a couple that have put it on. Anywayz thank you for the input though.
