Gas Pedal Slack?

I was driving in to work and noticed that my gas pedal felt weird...couldnt figure out at first what was wrong but then I realized the pedal was kinda sloppy. It has about an inch or so of play, rather than just being tight like it was. I got out at work and found this rubber grommet on my floorboard and Im figuring it was what came off but cant see where it came from. It looks like the kinda grommet that goes at the end of a cable so I would guess if it came off theres no way of putting it back on...I checked to see if it was affecting my throttle from opening all the way but its not,if I put it to the floor it still opens all the way up but it feels crappy. I see theres an adjustment on the cable up under the hood, can I possible pull the slack from there? If not what do I have to do? Thanks guys appreciate it.

Well I feel like a bung hole now....used that adjustement up top there and slack is gone....still dont know why that grommet broke though, but it seems fine now, maybe I'll replace that cable sometime.
