O man...you should look around on the forum. There are two more threads about similar things I believe.....so anyway this mod does nothing but give a louder sound. No performance gains. It's easy but not worth it.

Ok well first you should read up on what you're thinking. The idea you would even think of spending $200 on a CAI is ridiculous. The only CAI is the PR and the ones off ebay. They most have a longer pipe that needs to be cut through the wheel well. Any other intake is HAI and is ****. You need to look around on here. There is another post similar to this. Look for something like this on ebay.

just make sure you get a k&n filter.

If performance is important, than stay stock.

i did look over the stickies quick. so i found the above pic on ebay for like $35 dollars. so ebay is claiming about 10 extra HP and TQ and better gas milage. i am well aware of the stretching of truth on ebay and am doubtful, especially on the gas milage.

btw quoted in stickies by anachronism
You can buy a CAI from Warpspeed or Place Racing. Expect to pay between $155 and $210. There are now no name brands of CAIs on ebay for well under $100
that is where that $200 dollars came from that i said. from looking around as you suggested in the stickies.

Gotcha. Ok well you wont gain anywhere near 10 hp. The truth is that stock is the best intake. But the ones that have the filter in the wheel well are good as well. Those are the only intakes to think of. But I still say that intakes are not worth it. Drop in a stock size k&n and that should be ok.

Leave the stock intake system in place. It provides the best overall performance and throttle response. This has been proven time and time again on here.

The only thing your going to get with an aftermarket setup is noise and poor throttle response, especially in hot weather. Being your a poor college student and can't afford a PR CAI, just leaving it alone is your best performance based decision.

I have a ram air intake and it doesnt get as hot as you might think. i also have a diagnostic computer in my car and it reads IAT and on a 80 degree day in medium traffic it was pulling in 66 degree air.

when i first bought my car, i did this to my intake:http://www.brianv.net/mods/filter/

but yesterday, i decided to go back to stock b/c of all the talk about it not being worht it. well, THEY ARE RIGHT! my car is so much better with stock intake. the only thing a pop charger will do is make your engine loud and lose a couple horses. beleive me, dont make the same mistake as i did. just buy a k&n panel filter and save your money on a y-pipe

That's great....point is that it's not worth it. You lose power anyway. Stay stock or make sure it's cut through the fender. Anything else is really a waste.

Why would you take the snorkels off? I've thought about running it from somewhere else to get better air, but that won't change anything too much. Maybe bring a little cooler air, but nothing significant.

I don't see why he couldn't have just slipped a K&N Filter in and called it a day instead of plastering the sides with that ugly electrical tape

If you have nothing else done to your car i.e. exhaust, y & b pipe, then stick with a k&n or blitz panel filter. BUT, if you have other mods (as above), then go with a good conical filter but build an aluminum cage (to block the filter from the hot engine bay). This is by far the best overall combination! I would never remove the stock filter box without the other mods first. And make sure that air flow wire is in the air stream not outside, zip tied to anything!
