People on the board say that they beat 5.0 stang regularly and with nearly no mods, but of course this is not true. (if the stang and max are both properly driven) The real question is what kind of mods should be done (and in what order) to truly create a Max that will toast 5.0 stangs? I heard that 10 horsepower speeds the car up by 1/10 of a second so I would need about 100 more horsepower? Of course I am looking to do this as cheaply as possible. (would prefer not to use NOS due to engine damage that it causes) Currently just have a 1996 SE with a CAI. An order of upgrades would be apprecitated
thanks

If its an auto 5.0, I doubt you need much. They are real slow, I know from owner experience...I couldn't wait to get rid of my 5.0. If its a stick, well...a s/c wouldn't hurt, but I doubt you would need that much...

you have a 5 speed?
the old style 5.0 are not super fast
I have seen people beat them
Get a y pipe and practice driving stick if you have one.
Also if you want you can get a supercharger

If the 5.0 is stock then you wont need a lot, especially f its an auto, but watch out for modified ones, ive got friend with a stick 5.0 that has 350 naturally aspirated horsepower, i wouldnt consider running against him

I would try a y-pipe, full exhaust, and probably a S/C If it's a stick, you'll nedd the S/C for sure as they're much quicker than the Max, if it's an auto you may be able to take him with just the y-pipe and exhaust. Just make sure to hit your shifts well or you're toast. If you have an auto... well... probably can't be done at all without a S/C I know that plenty of people seem to think that the Max will easily toast a 5.Slow, but it just won't happen without a lot of work. Unless the mustang owner isn't actualy racing. Then you could pull him by four car lenghts to 60. Hehe. Good luck with your quest.

I go to the track on a REGULAR basis...and run MANY mustangs....since they are probably the most common car there. Auto 5.0s AVERAGE 15.5 - 15.7 ETs on a GOOD day....stick 5.0s AVERAGE 15.0-15.2 ETs on a good day....I have smoked MANY of them...and been smoked by many modded ones...I had one really good run with a 4.6L 5-speed with intake, headers and MSD ignition...he ran a 14.9 and I ran a 14.8. You do NOT need a S/C to take a STOCK 5.0.
