Hi everyone. First off, nice boards. I've been running through them a bit and you have some nice cars. I just obtained a 96 Infiniti I30 and I'm looking for some go-fast mods. I noticed several of you have exhausts and intakes ans such and I was wondering if you all could help me decide which are best and where to buy? Any help is appreciated. I want to at least get it over 200hp (at the crank of course) and I figure I can do that with a good intake and exhaust, right?

BTW - I had a 99 Cougar before with many mods, so don't be afraid to tech-talk me. hehe thanks

I would probably start with a CAI. When you're doing your exhaust, remember to do a y-pipe. Youcan get one for about $300 and it's WELL worth it. As far as exhaust, it kinda depends on how loud you want to go and what kind of a tone you want. There's a million options on that end. You should be able to get over 200 hp at the crank no problem. Good luck

Cool. Do you know the best brand and place to buy the CAI? Is it a true CAI? Also, on the exhaust I'm looking for something that is quiet at idle, like stock, but can be throaty during WOT. I also don't wanna system with a huge melon shooter tip. Thanks again for any help.

Place Racing makes the CAI, and yes it s a true one, an it is capable of being quite loud, im not sure about its sound at idle

I would probably go eith the Cattman CAI and yes it's a true CAI Sounds like stock at idle and lets you know it's there on WOT As far as the exhaust, I would wait for someone else to let you know, cause I'm not real sure about different sounds. Sorry

Exhaust

I ordered a Stillen(I know, I know) Y-pipe because it sounds loud. I dont know if it is only loud under WOT or all the time. I hear the Cattman Y-pipe is quieter. You might want to aks Phuong(GotRice) about it, I know he will know.

A y-pipe and intake (even non-cold air) should get you over 200hp at the crank on an I30 or Maxima. The Max/I30 spec at approx 190hp at the crank stock. The y-pipe/intake combination should add about 10hp-15hp at the wheels. If you figure in about 15% driveline loss, the Max/I30 would be getting in around 205hp or so at the crank.

There are a handful of people that makes Y-pipes for the Max....

Do you have a 5sp or Auto I30?

The standard JWT or Stillen intake (non-cai) seems to be able to make more max HP. However, if you have an auto, you'll feel a more pronounced loss of low end torque than someone with a 5sp.

i can vouch for this one, it always takes a little while longer to respond when you are at low revs. oh well, u win some, u lose some

I have an automatic slush box, but hey that is all they had on the lot when i bought mine. I have the JWT Popcharger intake and Greddy catback Exhaust. It sounds great. the intake has its own sound that is very aggressive, but that in combination with the sport exhaust sounds great. The y-pipe is too loud with the catback for me, but from what i have heard that it is not very loud with the stock catback system. Plus that big exhaust tip looks good.
hope this helps.

98SterlingMistSE - JWT Popcharger Intake, Greddy Catback Exhaust, Stillen FSTB, in the mail. . . Random Tech. Catalytic Converter and Addco RSB. . . fully loaded, more to come. . .
