Try burning your copied cd's at slower speed..

Keep in mind back in 97 or during the 4th gen maxima era, Copied cd's did not exist..

Some say to simply resolder connection points on the radio's PC board..
other say it's the lazer that's "overheating" since reading copied cd's requries more work from the player..

I have that ERR or no display on my OEM 96 unit, will be attempting to fix within the next 2 weeks..

the reason I am not going aftermarket is I like the clean look of the OEM radio.. it matches the rest of the dash units... unless I get a DVD/NAV double din unit.. hmmmm

You could try using a good name brand CDR with a lower burn speed. Helps sometimes.

But if you happen to have $200-300 bucks available, I'd recommend a new HU and speakers. You can get a decent HU with MP3/WMA capability these days for under $150. Use the rest of the money for new speakers.

I got my Panasonic CQ-C1300U to fit nicely in the factory spot.

I have the some thing happen on my 96. I'm going to go the cheapo route to fix this though by adding an AUX input to the HU however.

Instructions can be found here.

I went to an aftermarket unit about 3 years ago. It was something on sale from Crutchfield. Can't even remember what it is. I think it's a Kenwood.

It looks great, and sounds way better than the original. Pocket underneath for carrying around 4 or so CDs. It came with a Scosche adapter, so I didn't even need to think about touching the speakers. I'm a happy camper now.

Well adding an AUX output doesnt fix the error.....it just adds an ipod or something that you want to run through the hu.

All you guys have to do is open the hu and resolder one of the connections....why spend a few hundred $'s for a new hu and adapter when you can just solder something for free?

i get the same problem in my non-bose hu. is there a write up on how to resolder the wires to make them capable of reading CDR?

No. Thats the cd player itself. Some hu's dont have the correct laser eyes and all to read cdr's. It's older hu Im guessing?

We've all got a $3k+ bose system in our cars and you're all whining because your 8+y/o stereo isn't working perfectly? *shakes head*

First of all if you know anything about burnt CDs you'll realize that lower burning speeds mean more precision=less errors on disk, or did you honestly think that your burnt CD was a perfect duplicate of the original bit for bit?

Secondly, pay the $225 or spend the 5 hours or so taking the unit apart to fix the resistors that blew.

Lastly, cars like RRs, Bentleys, etc use bose systems. You think a car costing more than half a million would install a crappy brand?

Sorry folks...Haven't seen a pioneer unit in a Bentley yet, but I'll keep looking.
