I had a thought this morning. So many guys and gals on this board race whether they have an auto tranny or a manual tranny. Why not make a sticky post for maximum speeds in each gear for the auto tranny and manual tranny. If people need to know, they can just go to the sticky post.

Just an idea.

If anyone else has something good to add to this idea, please feel free.

There should be a catagory for each generation.

I was thinking this out there somewhere......anyway it would be perfect for the "offical" MAX FAQ's headed up by Y2KevSE.......Info should be easily obtainable.

Forward this link to Kev and get his thoughts....

I am looking for people(the ones that have tested) who know what the maximum speeds in each gear. This is for the race heads and this will make everyone more consistant across the board. This speeds should be broken into 2 catagories, Auto and Manual(trim level shouldn't matter).

There should be speed readings for each gen of the Max.

Let's see here,

95-99 Maxima SE and 96-99 I30T 5spd gearing,
1st=37MPH
2nd=67MPH
3rd=97MPH
4th=131MPH
5th{If you have the power}=157MPH

MT tested the top speed to be 142MPH.

Results obtained risking my life!

2000 Nissan Maxima SE automatic

Full tank of 92 Octane Chevron gas
SE with LSD, 200W BOSE, Leather, 17" stock rubber, auto air, TCS, seat heater, electric power seats. Mud guards, floor mats. conditioning. Running all stock engine. Nissan provided oil.
Me weights 160lb.

The car has 15812 miles on it!

Engine all warmed up. Radio off, AC off, sun roof tilted, radear detector sucking battery.
Dry weather.

1st gear: 64km/h (40mph)
2nd gear: 110km/h (69mph)
3rd gear: 168km/h (105mph)

I allowed the automatic to shift for me.

I don't have forth gear because I tested this in a 30mph zone. Which was very dangerous already. I am sure that with a new oil change with synthetic and stuff, it would be much faster.

You could add a SC and a oil change and you whould still have the same gear ratios. Another words a 500HP Max with a stock tranny whould still only do 37MPH in 1st{For a 4th gen 5spd} and 67 in 2nd. More power will just get you to those speeds faster.

I will dig up my massive MT collection tomarrow and give the official stats. My #'s I think are right, the only thing that might be off is the top speed in 3rd gear/

i think thomas, sx7r, would contest that 5th goes to 158mph

157, 158, it's all the same, haha. I am sure there could have been a 1 MPH error on one of the tests.

I obtained the 157mph # from a members web page{Over a year ago}. Anyways a Dyno provided the 157 #.

Are the 4th and 5th gen auto gear ratios different? Tops of 1st is 38, second is 82(way higher than the 68 claimed), 112 for 3rd and ? for 4th.

i would imagine the gear ratios are different, i think slightly longer, more speed per gear, in the 5th gen. i know someone at the LSP meet with a y and cai that got the 5th gen 5spd to 155 and he said he had more, so i know the 5-spd ratios are longer, by how much ??? prolly a couple percent, UNLESS the gears are the same and the final drive is different?!?!

If you have info about speed in gears for the Max, please post them. I am getting Y2KevSE to look into making a sticky post for all the race heads. This will make org members consisted with shift points when racing (at the track).
