00vi price vs 00 engine price
I find that the price for the full 00vi is not too far off from the price of a used engine from an 00-01 maxima. Why is the 00vi so expensive? If you needed to replace your coils and wanted an 00vi wouldn't it be cheaper to get the new engine? Also how much would it cost to install a new engine (obviously this is where the 00vi wins pricewise, labor)

That's actually true. The 00vi itself isn't priced that far off from the whole engine. I went and picked up everything I needed minus misc. stuff like gaskets and hoses for about $400. When all is said and done it will probably run me around $450-$500. I think you can get a 2000-2001 engine for around $700-800. I probably would have been better off picking up the whole engine since my miles are pretty high but oh well.

You guys aren't shopping hard enough. Year-and-a-half ago I picked up a "verified" 25K 2001 engine (complete) for $350. Albeit, maybe I should also add in the cost of renting a pickup truck for the day to go get it.
By "verified" I mean not just accepting what the salvage yard tells you, but by getting the Engine Serial Number (ESN) from them for the specific engine plus the VIN for the car they say the engine came out of, you can call the 800 number for Nissan-USA and their database can confirm whether or not that engine was installed in that vehicle at date of manufacture. Then using CarFax you can look up the car's history to confirm the mileage.
A dishonest salvage yard can get in a nice, low-mileage wreck and use that same VIN when selling any-and-all engines from the same make/year/model car.

A.) A VQ35DE engine can be had for same price as VQ30DE-K
B.) MEVI is NOT better than 00VI, unless you want less power down low (supercharged guys). It is only easier and depending on how you shop possibly a bit cheaper.

I bought the entire 00VI with coil packs, rear valve cover from a salvage yard for about $400 shipped. I then found and bought a 01' motor with 8500 miles on it for $690. If you can find a low mileage motor, go for it definetly.

Price wise it depends where you go and what you find. I didnt find anything too low for the complete de-k, so I'm just doing the 00vi. If you can find the full de-k then go for it. Much more work tho.
No you're not. MEVI is $360(?) and the 00vi is a little more depending where you get parts. No point in spending a little less and not having any lower gains unless your supercharged as Fr33way said.

The de-k will give you gains! It's just a lot more work to swap the entire engine. It's just a better idea (in my head at least) to trust the engine I have now with the 00VI swapped. You wont get more gains from a MEVI than a de-k. Oh and the MEVI needs an upgraded ECU to get good gains. So all in all, yes the MEVI does cost about $500.
