Is my clutch slipping or a bigger problem?

I have a 98 5 speed, if I floor the car b/w 2500-3600 rpms it seems as though at 2500 the clutch disengages and the RPMS go up but the speed doesn't increase for a few seconds until it grabs. I've never abused the clutch, only noticed this after I had to floor it and now I'm paranoid that at 108,000 miles of granny driving I have a bad clutch.

Also, I've never changed the transmission fluid, could that be the reason or would this be purely a clutch issue.

Thanks!

hmm, i had this problem in my 94 accord a few years ago.... torque converter went bad or something (obviously an automatic tho). I had to buy a whole new tranny. Id say get it fixed quick whatever it is. I wouldnt think merely the fluid would cause this but it definitely wouldnt hurt to change it if you havent done it before.

my guess is just that the clutch is going

Could be the plate on the clutch that is damage...

So when your in gear and floor it the RPM's go up and your not gaining any speed? If so then yes your clutch is slipping.

Before you ask, go and get the 5th gen Clutch, PP, TOB, and some nice oil (Amsoil 75w90 or Redline 75w90).

I'm not sure, but what does PP TOB mean?

PP = pressure plate
TOB = throwout bearing or Reease bearing

I just ordered my 5th gen clutch from Gerrands Nissan

http://garrands-nissan.com/New%20Website/parts.htm

For $188 shipped. Thats a pretty good price if you ask me. Mention that you saw it from their website and they should give you 20% discount I believe.

I know a guy who will do it for $200.

But I think I will do it myself with the help of a mechanic I know. So virtually free.

Kinzer ty?

Make sure that the clutch that you ordered itsn't keyvalue...the 5th gen clutch is made by Exedy and i believe it's the same as there Stage 1 clutch.

Nope, I searched around and these are correct parts number

5th Gen Clutch - 30100-2Y904 - 75.55
5th Gen Pressure Plate - 30210-89F00 - 82.06
Clutch Release Bearing - 30502-41U20 - 24.50

One of them has updated part number but they "link" to each other.

Hey guys, a few questions about removing the transmission. After taking out the axle (assuming I have the airbox battery etc out. ) Do I have to remove the center member? Is this a hard part to remove? Is the transmission housing being held by the LH? Which gets removed first, LH or the center member..

Not trying to jack the thread, but I have another related question:

I am also contemplating about changing my clutch.
I have Fidanza Flywheel and have read someplace that I have to change the friction plate (removable) every time I change the clutch?
Is this true?

thx

No you don't have to remove the center member. I managed to remove the tranny without removing it. Just make sure you have some pretty short sockets and small to medium rachets and wrenches. After removing the axles undo the shift linkages. I'm also assuming that you've already removed the tranny bolts that are on top along with the bolts for the tranny mount, starter, slave cylinder, and etc. So now just stick in your wrenches and short sockets in the bolts and remove. I don't remember the sizes, but I think some are 14mm and some are 17mm. Also remember to keep track of which bolt(s) go where since there are a couple of different sizes. Now you just have to slowly slide the damn thing off (putting it back on is a b!!ch due to the weight).
