Opinion on Dash.. Paint or Not to Paint

I have brushed aluminum trim on my dash... well, just the center... it's starting to wear... Has anyone painted them?

Is it a hard to DIY? Does it last? Do they look good?

Thanks.

I dont want to copy all the pics from the other side but that's the basic idea. If you do it right then it looks good and will be so much better then those f'n tirm things.

there's a write up somewhere. I didnt follow one. I just used my head and knowledge of paint. It's been 5 months maybe. I used SEM paint, you can use any kind. Took a few days to do everything.

Well, I know this applies to models, but it works on all plastics too. Here!

This is what I am going to use when I paint my dash/interior trim to match the car.

Well this really isnt a hard process. You just need to go slow and take your time. You just need to make sure you wet sand the pieces you paint well, and make sure they dry (water, and each coat of paint). Don't rush the paint drying and all. Do a couple good coats of paint and once they have dried fully, then do good coats of clear for protection! Should be all set.

I painted my dash trim pieces as well. Most people think it's stock until I tell them I did it myself. I think it looks better than the kits.

Agreed, it can turn out well if you take your time...look at the pics in the link I posted, that paint on the plastic looks smooth as glass and professional...Take your time, have fun and enjoy.

I need to find some exact match to my pearl white paint soon...

Great! Thank u! I am going to start my paint project in a few weeks. I will post pics of the process and share the results. This ought to be interesting, it's my first time venturing into a project such as this. Wish me luck.

good god don't paint that crap. are you trying to make your car look like some riced out piece of crap civic owned by a 16 year old who's watched fast and furious 3 too many times? go ahead and put a fake fire extinguisher, neato light up washer nozzles, and a wing made out of aluminum on it while you're at it.

That's fine you think that. I don't think my dash looks anywhere near rice. I've had a massive amounts of compliments on it as well.

Yeah everything comes out of the car. You just need to be careful not to snap it.

I have purchased a dash kit. I am not happy with it.

Nealoc187, thank you for your opinion, however, I am personalizing my car the way I see fit. My car does not look like a ricer. I am very happy with the itsy bitsy mods I have applied to her and no, I don't have a fish tail or airplane wing on the trunk. The car is as tasteful as the owner.

Nice and sweet!

I've never seen a painted dash that looked anywhere near good, though I can't say I hang around people that would try to paint them, so the only ones I would ever notice would be the ones that are gaudy as hell that one sees when just walking past a car into a restaurant or some ricer that I might be next to at a stop light. I suppose a well done one, if there is such a thing, wouldn't stick out and thus be unremarkable and wouldn't catch my eye. For me, if I can tell it's been painted then it doesn't look good.

well whatever. Painting the dash some crazy color may be guady but I dont think most of them are near that. My color does not jump out to other people. Many believe it came on the car and thats what I want. If the car looks different but no one is sure what exactly is different is what I want. Nothing to do with being rice.
