High Mileage

I have a 98 Infiniti I30 with abnormally high mileage... It now has 188k on it and it had 159k on it when I bought it back in 2004. I am just wondering if anyone knows on average how much mileage a 98 I30 usually gets before having major mechanical problems. I haven't had any problems with it yet other than the thermostat needing to be changed. Also, my engine is stalling out when I first crank it up. It revs up then stalls and it takes about 2-3 attempts to actually get it started but after that, everytime I try to start it afterwars it starts with no problem until it sits for a long time (hours). Anyone know what could be causing this? I want to get an I35 with low mileage. Are those cars good? I don't want to put a whole lot of time/money into this car with it having 188k on it if it's going to have more problems in the future. Any suggestions?

My 95 has 234k and had 87k when I bought it back in 2000.

Probably as much as a 95 maxima does. I have yet to have any major things go wrong. I know my tranny is on its way out, but after the many miles I've had with it, I cannot complain.

Funny, that paritcular item hasn't gone bad on my 95 just yet.

I'm guessing it's your engine coolant temperature sensor, (ECTS), or a bad Crank position sensor (CPS). These will trigger a SES light, is yours on? It's more likely the ECTS.

.. I have the Nissan version and cannot complain in the least bit.

Every car's going to have problems no matter how you look at it.

From a financial standpoint, the I35 would not be the smartest, since you probably have the 98 paid off, and do not make payments on it. But the choice is yours. Keep the 98 and get an I35.. that's what I did, but I got it them Nissan trim rather than Infiniti.
