Max is not starting......

So since last week my car has been giving me problems starting right away, I was waiting for the check engine light to come on so I can check which it finally did yesterday. The CEL gave 0407 - Crankshaft Position sensor so I think to myself that I will get that replaced and all should be well. Well what normally happens in the mornings is that the car takes 2 or 3, basically multiple tries for it to start as it keeps cranking. After checking the CEL tonight in the rain, I reset the ECU by turning the screw back and went to start the car, it slowly tried cranking and slowly, it just stopped cranking all together. So now the car is pretty much dead, parked on the street and will have to get towed tomorrow or some thing to the mechanic. My question is that in the FAQ it said a faulty starter could be the cause of the problem which could trigger this code. Have any of you guys experienced this? I am thinking that maybe the bad crankshaft pos sensor put extra load on the starter which to my knowledge is old and it gave out tonight. So what happens is that whenever I turn the key to start the car, I just hear a click under the hood, no cranking or other starting noises at all.

So any ideas or any one experience this?

humm if its just clicking then to me it sounds like the started. see if you could get something and hit the starter with it. sometimes they get stuck... good luck.
