Great Butt-Holder

After doing so much to bring my Max ever-closer to having FWD-Japanese performance comparable to the BMW 540i, this chair is like icing on the cake. Makes all of these suspension upgrades really shine: Bridgestone Potenza RE750’s on 17x8 & 9 Bortex Mirella wheels, strut tower braces (F&R), Stillen RSB, Eibach springs & camber bolts, Tokico Illuminas, ES front suspension bushings thoroughout and Moog ball joints.

They are "factory" Recaros- either from a BMW or more likely- a Volkswagen. Some American cars had Recaros too. Transam and I belive the Merkurs as well. But I'd say those are from a VW.

this thread is a tease. we all wanna kno what car they are from. great job on matching the interior....but i dont think that seat flows with the car. if u like it keep it...just get a passenger seat to go along with it........but i personally rather keep my stock leather maxima seats

i know its not from a newer VW, the recaro's that the 20th anny GTI and the GLi are nothing like that. i've seen all the stock 99+ seats. that does not look like a VW. i'm not sure but aren't all BMW's leather

Those seats look kinda weird. Maybe its because of the design. Were these a direct bolt on? Give us the detais!!!

The purpose behind this seat is performance, not to impress with looks (especially when there's no accounting for some peoples' taste). With handling now capable of approaching 1.0g, I feel it's important to have a seat designed to give the driver full support so he can fully concentrate his attention on controlling the car. This seats performs that funstion extremely well.
It is a Recaro aftermarket seat (i.e., never sold as OE in any car) that I picked up on eBay in pretty tattered condition for not much money. In the pictures the passenger seat is still original Maxima. I also have another Recaro similar but not identical in design, also acquired on eBay on the cheap and in pretty worn condition. Oh, and let me just add that the thigh and rib bolsters are much more extreme than you're going to find in any new car with the possible exception of special dealer-installed options (most will do whatever you want if you're willing to pay them enough).
I had a local auto upholstery shop redo these seats in materials and colors chosen to compliment the stock interior. Sorry you guys who are into glitz and bling (I think that's what it's called), I'm not. My priority is on performance and then keeping it nice looking. But that's what makes America so great, being able to be different and yet appreciate and accept others' differences.

Oh, and to answer the other question, makers of Recaro bolt-in brackets for the Maxima are kinda had to come locate, but I found a source at this number: (562) 633-1663

how does a leather backing help with performance? personally, i would have gone with cloth all around. the front surface looks good, though.

It's not leather. Quality vinyl is both more durable and easier to care for than leather. Cloth was used in all of the surfaces contacting the driver while seated.

I think they look really good, I do admit that they would look even better if they were just one material but anything is better then the OEM uncomfortable maxima seats.

Leather backing is probably to help with aesthetics, while the seats design itself adds the addition of a a better holding/performing seat.

I understand that you didn't do it for looks, but I think it looks pretty good.

What would look better, a black racing seat? I love those bolsters, the seat itself actually looks very similar to a recaro option seat in the Skylne BNR32.

Thanks for that number, do you recall offhand a price for the brackets?
