Dynomax Ultra-Flow Welded vs. Super Turbo

Dynomax Ultra-Flow Welded vs. Super Turbo
I purchased the Ultra-flow, but am now considering taking it back and getting the super turbo due to how loud it may be. I wanted something that would sound loud when revved or in high end of range, but not something that drones at idle and moans throughout low RPM automatic tranny shifts (yuck). Many seem to say that the Super Trbo isn't loud enough, and there aren't enough reviews on the Ultra-flow to get a good feel. It does seem like many org members go with the super turbo, please give me some input. And if anyone has input on the Ultra flow, please share. I'm getting the work done Friday and am not going to put on something I end up hating. I have a y-pipe with test pipe and stock b-pipe/w resonator for reference. Thanks.

I also have the superturbo 3" and i don't have a blower. I chose the 3" model 17793 because its rated for 239 hp (in crank hp, a figure i hope to roughly achieve soon with some a/f tuning). I don't run a resonator at all and its not too loud. It definitely was too loud for a few days after I got it, it needed some "break-in" or load-up or something to quiet down. but i've had dynomax and other "turbo" mufflers in the past and they all seem to behave that way. Now it sounds perfect for me, throaty idle, slight rasp and deep roar on accel, slight pop here and there on decel (only before fully warmed up). No drone, if i cruise steady its hardly louder than stock.
BTW a 2.5 ultraflow welded vs. a superturbo is a huge difference in flow. Ultraflow = way more than enough and the 2.5 superturbo is barely (not quite) enough. Not that we're talking a lot of power either way.

isnt the ultra flow a straight through muffler?? Its gonna be loud if it is...i have the superturbo w/ budget y, and it sounds great i think. Quiet rumble at idle. Also, you don't want to have that test pipe, its gonna make your car sound like a dump truck or a broken 86 chevy. I had that EXACT setup. Budget y, test pipe, stock resonated catback, superturbo muffler...sounded like a dump truck. I put the stock cat back on, and now it sounds great.

My suggestion would be model 17748 (20" case 2.5" inlet outlet) for NA. Download the pdf catalog from their website.
Whether you like the sound or not is a subjective matter. Go listen to someone who has one rather than listen to all the banter (including mine).

I have an ultra flow welded and also my buddy does, both are on turbo maximas however so our cars will likely be quite a bit quieter than on NA or supercharged maximas. superchargers don't muffle exhaust sound at all, only turbos do.
fwiw I love my ultra flow welded - thing is so silent on my car as to be damn near imperceptable unless I'm really on it. just a slight growl more than stock - kindof like the sound a Y pipe makes with factory muffler.

I took the ultra flow back and got the super turbo. I will say that the ultraflow is of better quality than the super turbo, which feels flimsier and cheaper. It shows in price too, as I received $40 back from what I paid. So basically the super turbo only costs $40 total. I don't expect more than 3-4 years out of it, so no big deal. But i'll stick with what I know won't be too loud and will give somewhat of a flow increase.

^ dude i think he gets the point. you stated your hate/dislike on mangaflows and dynomax like 4 times in this thread.
its his car let him get what he wants to get. his money and everything. in most cases any replacement is better then stock in terms of flow. But obviously more flow means more noise and blah blah blah. nothing will be as stock. your car isn't stock so its not going to sound stock.

ok for the most part exhaust doesn’t so sh.it on our cars... its simple dohc engines sound sucks period.. u put on a straight flow muffler like magnaflow (which are awesome mufflers in terms of quality) its gonna give you nothing but droan.... magnaflow has great products just not for our cars... for a v8 mustang or a camaro the are awesome...i have had a bunch of setups and they all sound like crap.. i decided to be the quinine pig and im just reporting my findings... fact of the matter is that our stock exhaust isnt that restrictive as everyone says (minus the y pipe)

Had Magnaflow before my Dynomax Super Turbo and it was a good 3x dronier.....
I really don't know what you people are talking about when you say it's loud - I care very much about keeping my exhaust quiet and the Dynomax did the job.
It is louder with the S/C bolted up than without boost - but not a whole lot.
That Magnaflow I had sounded like ****! Drooooonnnnneeee.......

ive got warpspeed 2.5 y pipe, warpspeed 2.5 b pipe, FlowMaster DeltaFlow 40 Series muffler, 3.5 inch tip. perfect setup. really low pitched, rumbles all around the car, sometimes sets off car alarms in parking garages. i love it. the rumble is way sexy.
end thread. get a flowmaster.

there is now way that our motor would even come close to sounding like a v8.... there is absolutely nothing you can do except put in a chevy 350 to make it sound like that... this is what a "mini" v8 sounds like..

Keyword SMALL eight cyl.
ok cool, i was hoping to hear somehting like this. anyone else have had this done?

my setup as of tomorrow will be, warpspeed ypipe, stock b pipe with dynomax super turbo.
I was going to wait till after christmas when i had more money to do a whole catback (budget b + apexi ws2) but my muffler broke off and its rediculously loud right now, just need a quick fix (90$)
