ok, tuesday, i changed my sprigns and while doing so, i WD40 all around to loosen up the bolts. well plenty of WD40 dripped and got onto the rotors. well, when i test drove, i never heard the brake squeels again, even up to this day, they have disappears. im not sure how long they will be gone for but it hasnt seemed to affect performance. anyone know any downsides?

I know nothing on the subject, but common sense would indicate that WD40 is a lubricant and that's not something you would want on your brakes, which are all about friction.

yeah, i would have never done it, but it was unintentional when i was trying to lubricate the bolts. im thinking that maybe the WD40 cleaned off something from the rotors...

Does WD-40 have silicone in it? I know it's a lubricant. If it has silicone in it, you are about to ruin your rotors and pads. If you get silicone in your brake pads it won't go away, it's so resistant to high heat it will just stay in your pads, and end up making your rotors incredibly hot (and pads) and your rotors will warp prematurely. Not to mention your maximum braking ability will certainly have decreased. Please be careful.

WD-40

In the FSM it says never use mineral oil to clean near caliper. I'm not sure if WD-40 has mineral oil?

Re: WD-40

I would go back and spray with brake cleaner liberally.

It is petroleum based.

WD-40 does not contain silicone, kerosene, water, wax, graphite, chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), or any known cancer-causing agents.
