I'm not kidding! Just arrived at my parents house in Bakersfield, CA. I drove from Union City (Bay Area) and had my cruise control set at 80 for about 80% of the total mileage. Has anyone ever come up with the same results, more or less?

When I drove from Chicago to Atlanta and Atlanta to St. Petersburg, I was around 290 at the 1/2 way point.

I have found that the last 50% of the tank goes much quicker than the first 50%. Also, when I fill up the tank, the fuel gauge is way above the full line. Just an observation.

98SterlingMistSE - JWT Popcharger Intake, Greddy Catback Exhaust, Stillen FSTB, Addco RSB, Random Tech Cat., more to come. . . .

That's exactly what I obserced too. My typical driving is 50% highway and 50% city, and the first 50 miles more or less will bring the needle down to the FULL mark.

Miles per half-tank is not an accurate measurement of fuel economy. The fuel gauge is notoriously non-linear. Miles per gallon is the correct way to measure and express fuel economy.

It is not accurate to estimate gas mileage using the fuel guage needle. The top half of the guage moves very slowly, and often reads more full than the tank actually is. For example, ever notice how you use up 2-3 gallons before the needles falls below the top "F" line? I filled up today with my needle a little below 3/4, and I filled up 6 gallons, which means the needle should have been 2/3, not 3/4. And ever notice how the bottom half of the guage sends the needle plunging twice as half as the top half?

Take DBM's advice, MPG is the only accurate measurement. I get pretty lousy mileage. Usually around 25-26 on the highway, way under 20 in the city. It usually averages out to 20MPG in mixed driving.

I agree about the additional mileage gained before the needle starts to drop from the full mark. During my drive, the needle finally moved when I reached 78 miles.

Yeah, my gauge makes that move around the 80 mile mark.

The 4th gen's is also 18.5 gallons. Funny thing is that once I put 18.7 gallons into the tank, and that WASN'T topping it off.
