Insane understeer when wet w/Kuhmo Ecstas?

Does anyone else have this problem? I love my new Kuhmos in the dry, but lately I've noticed that I get a scary amount of understeer when it's remotely wet. It's like I'm driving on ice and I have trouble keeping up in corners with Ford Tempos...

I drive in the rain and the thing just plows forward when remotely asked to take a corner. I'm glad the steering on my car is pretty good, so I can feel when I'm close to the limit but it feels like the limit is way too low...

Anyone have a similar experience with their Maximas/Kuhmos?

similar experiences, no. my ecstas have never given me any problems. the only thing wrong with my ecstas over the years is the sidewalls cracked so easily, but that could be my fault i guess.

i had them on my civic (yea yea) and i had the same problem. Driving like a grandmother lol

Edit: In my case nothing changed but the tires, and the alignment and such was checked. When i swapped to other tires, it was perfectly fine. So i rule it as a issue with those tires.

Alignment?
Tires worn down a bit?
Correct tire pressure?
Or your just simply driving to fast on wet roads?

Kumha Ecstas are summer tires. Their compounds change in the cold.

You have a RSB, i heard its supposed to make the rear switchy in wet weather. Maybe you need tire rotation.

1) How deep is your tread?
2) Are you on the throttle? With an open diff, throttle will tend to make one wheel spin and also lift weight off the front tires. Of course both of these effects cause understeer.
3) I get significant understeer in general when I'm on wet roads in chilly weather. In the summer it's not so bad, but around this time of year it's a real plow. I'm running Falken ZE-512s.

Thats not true.

Your driving too fast in wet weather with summer tires. WHat do you think is going to happen?

It is summer tires....and when raining, you should always take the corners slowly even with winter tires... obviously when wet, there will always be less traction... dont get too creative in the rain..

As a general rule, summer > all-season > winter when it comes to wet weather cababilites.

This is wrong. Kumho makes 9 different passenger ECSTA tires. some are summer. some all season. some high performance all season. although everyone else is right about the culprit probably just him driving too fast.

My bad. You're right. there are a whole ranges of ECSTAs. I bet, though, the original poster has summer tires from the way he describes the feeling. So, nosispower, are you running Kumho ECSTA 712s or any other ECSTA summer tire?

I have the Kuhmo 716's and they are a little slippery for my tastes.

There's two possible things it can do:
1. Rear end that is firmer and lighter than front becomes more twitchy, or...
2. Behaves same as when dry(understeer) only with lower grip at both ends.

In any case, I would need to experiment to figure this out.

Ive had a RSB on my car for the past 3 years and the only thing it does is improve the cars handling. The only times my car will understeer or oversteer is when I force it to, it never happens on accident. Posts like these where people blame the loss of control on their tires or parts of their suspension; its not the parts fault, its driver error. If you spin out or lose control, its because you are pushing your car too hard or your are not driving properly. Learn to drive what you have.
