Insane understeer when wet w/Kuhmo Ecstas?
Does anyone else have this problem? I love my new Kuhmos in the dry, but lately I've noticed that I get a scary amount of understeer when it's remotely wet. It's like I'm driving on ice and I have trouble keeping up in corners with Ford Tempos...
I drive in the rain and the thing just plows forward when remotely asked to take a corner. I'm glad the steering on my car is pretty good, so I can feel when I'm close to the limit but it feels like the limit is way too low...
Anyone have a similar experience with their Maximas/Kuhmos?

similar experiences, no. my ecstas have never given me any problems. the only thing wrong with my ecstas over the years is the sidewalls cracked so easily, but that could be my fault i guess.

i had them on my civic (yea yea) and i had the same problem. Driving like a grandmother lol
Edit: In my case nothing changed but the tires, and the alignment and such was checked. When i swapped to other tires, it was perfectly fine. So i rule it as a issue with those tires.

1) How deep is your tread?
2) Are you on the throttle? With an open diff, throttle will tend to make one wheel spin and also lift weight off the front tires. Of course both of these effects cause understeer.
3) I get significant understeer in general when I'm on wet roads in chilly weather. In the summer it's not so bad, but around this time of year it's a real plow. I'm running Falken ZE-512s.

My bad. You're right. there are a whole ranges of ECSTAs. I bet, though, the original poster has summer tires from the way he describes the feeling. So, nosispower, are you running Kumho ECSTA 712s or any other ECSTA summer tire?

1. Rear end that is firmer and lighter than front becomes more twitchy, or...
2. Behaves same as when dry(understeer) only with lower grip at both ends.
In any case, I would need to experiment to figure this out.
