CAI into fog light area?
CAI into fog light area?
I was just wondering, since I dont have fog lights(Yeah, GXEs well...hehe), if anyone has made a CAI to grab air from that area right where the foglight is(or is supposed to be)? I thought about this when my friend and I were installing a CAI on his focus. The filter sat right behind the fog light, he was saying that if he took the foglight out, then it would get plenty of cold air. I also remember seeing this on a Ford Mustang in the racing circuit. Where the fog light spost were, there were funnels the shape of the opening, leading to a round pipe, that went to the filter. Anyway, that car used both openings.
I worked on a prototype system with some 2" pvc about 3 weeks ago. I removed the stock pressure box and used that 2" opening to access, just bringing the pipe down, through the metal and pointed out towards the front of the car. Oh, and its currently sitting on the work bench, if you want pics, I could get them.
Is there another alternative to using the stock air box? Like an inline filter of some sort? Do they make something like this?
Thoughts?

Post some pics of what you've done. It might stir-up some ideas. I did it with my 94 Sentra SE-R and it was great. I did something similar with my 90 Miata. I ran pvc pipe from the the stock airbox on both down to the front end where cold air flowed. It seemed to make a difference on both, especially with acceleration over 60 mph.

I dont have any pics of it, but there is a "custom" made cold air intake for the s/c on my car that sits just above where the foglights used to be. I probably wouldnt recomend having a filter level with the foglights as it may get pretty wet, but have it sit up a little above there. I"ll see if I can get a pic tomorrow, granted its on the opposite side of the car but you'll get the idea.

All of the advantages of a CAI without having the filter exposed.
Sorry for the late pics. I was busy yesterday. Anyway, I dont have it installed right now, but I will soon. I took it off because I was working in the bay.

Yes, my car is dirty...puddles...anyway. Ill get some pics of it installed.

Why not run the pipe right to the hole in your bumper where a for light might go. Slide a piece of black pvc pipe on there and it would not be noticeable.
Does the 2 inch pvc pipe fit the existing system well?

GCOBBLE- Yeah, most do. Mine comes foward, and drops down next to the batt, going under it, through the wall, and out towards the front of the car.
Cdg2125- THis is just a temp/prototype thing. I am going to work on a permanent system.
Wheelie King- Thats where it is. Ill install it tomorrow and take a pic. I am going to work on a 3" system, it is the right size for the existing accordian hoses, etc...

Maybe even use an actually foglight housing and gut the back and take the glass off the front.... O well, just an idea....
Velocity stack? Like some sort of funnel to force the air into the pipe? Not familiar with the term
Originally where I got this idea was that 05 racing mustang in Palm Coast Ford, and it had 'funnels' the shape of the fog light opening to force the air into the pipe. I will work on something like this, Ill let you all know how it goes.

BMW has them built into each of the intake plenums on the M5 and probably some other engine models also.
