Is locking differential the same as VLSD ?

For some reason the junk yard people use locking/non-locking differential terms for the manual transmission. Does locking means limited slip (VLSD) differential?
Also is $400 a reasonable price for 5-speed of 1997 ?

Yes locking is LSD. I dont think so. I found an 99 auto trans with 56k on it for 375....manuals should be less. Go to car-part.com. Make sure you find the axle as well.

$375 for an auto sounds pretty good. Why then people reporting spending more than $1k on a transmision. Is it that expensive to drop in a new tranny.
motorvate.ca guy did it in his garage and it didn't sound too difficult.

No 1k should be about right. 400 plus an axle is about 100 plus 400 or so for install. If you do it yourself than you'll save. But the car needs to be jacked high enough.
