converting from cali spec to fed spec

What would be a better choice- getting OEM Fed spec headers and mating it with a budget y pipe or something of the sort, or buying an ss autochrome/header combo? I am an an extreme budget and want to get rid of the cali spec crap. Thanks! I keep hearing conflicting things an SS autochrome. BTW, I really dont want any ricey sounds. I will be keeping the stock muffler.

I just swaped my front cali spec pre cat, for a fed spec manifold, and fed spec y pipe. I also used an o2 sim for the downstream o2 sensor. I think this would be the best thing you can do. I doubt you'll gain noticeable power by switching to short tube headers.

*Cough cough cough cough* Cattman *sneeze cough* ....... you get the idea. If you are going to change out the exhaust then why not do it right from the start? You may regret it in the future.

By far the best and most resonably costly way to convert. I will be doing this by next summer aswell as removing the swirl valve.

I see no point in getting expensive headers or even the cheap one's with all those fitment issues for a mere 2hp if you'll even get that.

So this would be simply making my car a stock fed spec max. I have not really driven in any other maxes, but they say that the 99 cali spec is the slowest of all the 4th gens. But how much slower are we talking about here? Are we talking barely noticable, or "WTF! the cali spec suks" kinda slow? I am also thinking about labor costs. Lets say I get some OEM fed spec headers, shouldnt I still get some sort of aftermarket Y pipe seeing that I am gonna have to be paying for labor anyway? Also, how hard is it to remove th swirl valve? Is there alot that has to be done internally to comlete the removal? What if you just plugged it?
