Which RPM switch are you using?
Harlen or Summit?

Not sure which exact coil wire to use, but you should consider the Summit switch. Many have had issues with the Harlan flaking out on them. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. Too much of a headache.
I tried sarching but no one stated specifically which one it was. i do know that if you decide to get the signal from the ecu its the white wire with a green stripe. Its buried in the mess of wres at the harness plugging into the ECU.

The TAM screw is just that. There is a phillips head screw on the back labled TAM you can unscrew it and use a ring terminal on your new wire..... to bad neither my 98 cluster and SEL cluster have it!

Even without this thing activating I am enjoying it alot. I feel really no loss in torque and a nice increase in hp. Can't wait for to work and my jwt w/ 7200 rev-limiter!

If so then the gain your feeling is not from the MEVI then, its the ecu, especially if your not feeling any power loss.
There is no power gain from the MEVI if your running it closed.
I have my MEVI wired up to the TAM screw on the back of the cluster, although Im using a Summit switch but I dont see why it would matter. I do know that the Summit switch doesnt work using a coil wirefor RPM signal though.
