red guage lighting *Pics*

taken off my cell camera so it is crappy quality. i bought 5-led 194 bulbs.
shown here:

installed 5 behind the guages and one for the shifter. snapped the pix when i hit 111,111 miles. going to finish the climate control with red LEDs when kbmaxima gets enough time to help me out. and to finish the red lighting i bought this yesterday. kenwood dpx301. (now only if i can get my clock to match that blue color on the headunit display)
shown here:

I was wondering about those bulbs. I was hoping that they didn't produce any hot spots and it appears that they don't. That makes my job way easier. I'm gonna have to do the white ones though. Nice job on the red.

Man I've been wanting to do this for awhile but wasn't sure how it would look. Now did you scrape the orange paint off from under the needles?

If I remember right the needles didn't have any orange in them, just an orange cover for the bulb. I may be mistaken, I did mine almost a year ago.

no i just installed the bulbs. going with red at night the orange shifter piece that lets you know what gear youre in looks red too.

and there are hot spots, but no where as obvious as using single leds that emit most light straight. i say get the 5led bulbs if you wanna do the guages. superbrightleds.com is good. theyre a little pricey but they give you ALL the info for each item. (including mcd brightness, wavelength, viewing angles, etc..)

I'm pretty sure he meant can you see the red during the day. I had blue, same bulb, and I could faintly see the blue when my headlights were on during a sunny day.

There are hot spots...and also, I bought these same ones on ebay and after about 6 months one of them died. If you are going to do you speedometer...just do the real deal and put REAL LED's in there. The bulbs are good for a short while (as evidenced by one of my lights dying - flickering on and off).

saw them in person, and they look really nice. the shifter light however has hotspots and won't light up the 1 and 2 all the way. best to probably go with a red colored halogen bulb there imo.

and for the record. it's not my fault i couldnt do you climate since u didnt have resistors with your LEDs DUH

Looks good. The hotspots don't look too bad. I had red before, but one blew out so I switched to orange LED's.

i bought them from superbrightleds.com

its a lil pricey but they give full info for all their leds, which i thought was useful esp when trying to match your whole interior lighting

i got the 5 led ones, u can try something else. tell me if you have any good suggestions. and i will take pics when i finish the interior

bulbs for the gauges should be bought at superbrightleds.com or autolumination.com. Inverse bulbs are the best since they spread the light the most. jxkim looks good.
