anyone every had to replace their EGR valve?? Step right in!!
the CEL just came on giving code 0302 yesterday. took it to the dealership to try and fix it (because it's a very general code that could be several things) and they charged me $95 to look at it for 15 minutes .
Anyway, i found out that my EGR valve is not functioning at all and it's makin my car run like $hit. so when i take it to the mechanic i wanna get everything possibly related to this problem fixed while the engine is already taken apart. nissan recommended that i change some type of sensor also... coolant temp sensor maybe? is there anything else that i can possibly do that would be a good idea for a car that has 148,000 miles? like maybe replace other sensors, coil packs, injectors, etc at the same time? even if it may not be broken, i wanna fix it while the engines all taken apart. so here's where you come in guys! help me spend my money! thanks!

omg u got RAPED for 95 bucks.. especially since u can do it urself OR take it to autozone and get it done for free!!!!! ouch
no to the important stufff... first of all u need to take apart the egr tube and clean it!! its probably solid.. second check all vacuum hoses and make sure they arent bad.. to that and post back

these 2 are expensive to replace adn really shouldnt be done unless needed. well maybe the KS but the MAF can jsut be cleaned.
on cleaning the EGR Tube (or buying a new one adn replacing it). its prob locked up and that is what makes the ECU think the EGR isnt working. it is a pain in the a** to clean but much cheaper.

what about replacing coil packs? they go bad over time and this may be a good time to just get them replaced at the same time as the EGR valve? can't hurt right? am i wasting huge amounts of money doing this? i just want peace of mind and the car to run its best

EGR Valves hardly fail, so I betcha that's not your problem. I had this code almost 2 years ago, along with the KS code, and my KS was brand new! problem turned out to be EGR solenoid valve. Others on the forum had luck cleaning out the whole EGR related items, such as tubes and plenum. Check this thread:

the valve solenoid carreis its own code (found that out when i changed my KS and forgot to plug the valve soneloid back in).

there instructions are much better. only adjustment i made was instead of taking off the large pipe with the EGR attatched (which they say you have to in order to get teh small pipe off) i removed the studs from the large pipe right where the EGR is which allowed me to pry the large pipe down and allowed me to remove the small pipe.

theres plenty of information on this alreayd floating around on the ORG please read. But i'd also like to say the EGR is probably the most cramped frusterating to work in especially without wratcheting wrenches.
Also, i dont think an EGR is gonna make your car run like sh*t...mine isnt opening and my car runs okay, but i mean if you have a bad knock sensor....replace that first.
sometimes people tend to think their car runs like **** just because they have a code. psychological thing i guess.
p.s. you paid someone 95 dollars to look at your car? wow dude you got RAPED. although i did kinda freak out and pay like 150 on a oem EGR valve when i was trying to pass inspection. my old EGR valve still works though...if you want it

if you take the car to autozone they will take 10 mins to use a vacum pump on the egr and check if it opens or not. tehy will do it fpr free. I the egr does not open with this confirmend vacum, them you need to replace it. Also you car will idle like crap if your egr is stuck even slightly open due to carbon buildup

so for the OP if you can manage and are willing to tackle this on your own, read through the links that have been provided for you and clean out the guide tube and port that it connects to on the back of the manifold if its all clogged up.
personally, mine wasnt, so i dont know why mine wouldnt open, but screw it im tired of messing with it.

Ok, so i've been reading all the threads about the EGR and seems like its not a big issue to fix.
So, im getting 2 different codes though. EGR Valve System along with the Knock Sensor. Correct me if im wrong but, I thought the EGR Code was the reason for my car stalling sometimes when i dont step on the gas on neutral....if not, does anyone know what that problem might be?
those 2 are the only codes i am getting, and is very embarassing when i neutral out of a parking lot and my car dies as soon as i put in into neutral hehe.

My CEL came on this week and I have the P1400 code for the EGRC solenoid valve. I had a stealership test my solenoid and it is toast so I am having it replaced next week.
The car runs perfectly. I don't have to go through emissions testing for another year, but I think its prudent to fix the problem now in the event that delaying the inevitable screws up some other part of the EGR system or results in a carbon buildup somehow. I also don't want the CEL to be on continuously.

I got gas the other day and when i started my car it sounded like it wanted to die, it just kept sputtering, and then my CEL kept flashing at me. does this sound like a bad batch of gas? or is this something serious? some guy told me to reset the light but i dont know where its located. and where do i get this code that everyone keeps telling me to get?
