Yes it has to be GL-4. If your manual then you need 75w90 oil and i believe just GL-4 ATF for auto.

Thanks - yeah, my Max is manual.

What brand do you guys recommend? I've looked around and Redline MT90 is quite hard to get around here...

Order it online. Amsoil is also an option.

You won't find anything but chit Napa locally.

Your best bet is to pm Talkinghorse (ED) on the org. He's running GD on this stuff. You won't find it cheaper or get it quicker then through Ed. You oil ships from the closest factory that's aroundy our area so you usually receive the oil within 3 days.

Edit: this stuff = Amsoil 75w90

Just noticed you are in Canada. Give them a call!

Redline will only be availible in race/tuning shops.

BG Chemicals "Syncro Shift II" (part no. 792) is really good too. I used it in my '89 Max SE. It's a 75w80 weight API GL-4.

Synchroshift 2 is very very expensive, but it is a very good fluid.

GM Synchromesh/Pennzoil Synchromesh is also good for our transmissions. It has no API GL rating however, so don't bother looking for GL-4 (or any other GL number) on the bottle because you won't find it. But trust me, I work at a shop that builds manual race transmissions, and it works, I've used it in my own maxima. MT90 is also very good, and will be the fluid in my transmission that I'm building for race duty. If you are looking for the best shift quality though, BG Synchroshift 2 is the best, period.
