How much trimming to fit 5th gen muffler?

I got pulled over the other day for my exhaust. It's only got a greddy muffler and cattman b and the cop was a d!ck about it. He gave me a warning so I have to have the car tested to make sure the exhaust passes sound levels. I know when I add my y-pipe that it will be much louder so I'm thinking ahead into my second muffler choice, 5th gen muffler. With the y and b it should have a nice sound (at least I'm hoping). I know the double pipes wont fit right under the stock bumper. Just need to know how much trimming you guys think is needed on the bumper. I was thinking of cutting it to the 5th gen size, more of the box shape. Any opinions are cool. Thanks for the help.

Yeah, I would do the oval type cutout.. Isn't that more or less what the 5th Gens have anyways?..

I thought it was more of a box shape? I was thinking it would be simpler to just trim a larger oval anyways. I just figure that either way I could find the 5th gen muffler much cheaper than another muffler. Probably be able to sell the greddy for the same price if not more than a stock 5th gen. Just gotta make sure its a good sound and not too loud. I'm so happy with the sound I have now but that y should double the sound. Thanks for the help.

If you use the original hangers that are on the muffler and your original rubber hangers, you won't have any problem. It hangs just low enough that it isn't a problem.

I'll need it fabricated on there anyway from a shop since my greddy is welded up. I'll see what happens.

While I got you guys I wanted to ask about the 5th gen steering wheel. I thought there was a how-to on installing them. Am I wrong or what?

They had the greddy cattman system? Or had a 5th gen muffler.

Yeah I don't like the look of the 5th gen that low. The whole above it looks weird. I want it to fit up into the hole. Judging by the picture its only a little trimming to raise if up.

Yeah I wanted to post yesterday but wasn't sure until i asked my friend. There is nothing that needs to be done. It fits perfectly, but you need to reweld the flanges i believe. I like the way Tatanko's looks, not so much the other photo...

I still want it higher than that. I want it in the hole. Most people don't do it because they don't want to trim the bumper. I want it up. It won't hit anything being higher. Every other muffler is higher up and doesnt hit usually.

They look better when they're clean. Mine were chrome, it was just a dirty/rainy day when I took the pics. That muffler really didn't look all that bad IMO. I had it that way for 7 or 8 months. Too quiet for my tastes, but I went from one extreme to another all at once (stock y + 2.25" cat-back + 5th gen muffler to aftermarket y + 2.5" cat-back + borla muffler).

Thats not true...

My SP2 that I got a few months back, made a new bumper cut out for me...

I heard the 5th gen also has a valve that when your below 3500 rpm only one exhaust is being used but when you step on it the valve opens up allowing more exhaust gasses to exit.

This is true. On a cold morning where you can physically see the exhaust coming out, you'll see it's only coming out of the right pipe at idle.

^^^ This is related to nothing in this thread.

That would look SO clean if the hole in the bumper was squared off and the tip tucked up. Nice clean Maxima.

I agree with Freeway. That's what I'm been saying. It looks much cleaner and better when it's trimmed up into the bumper.
