what kind of oil for wintertime?

i haven't gotten an oil change since it was warm weather out. it's about time for me to do it so what's the best brand and weight oil for the NY cold? also, are their any good additives i should throw into the oil resevoir that will make the car perform better or just enhances quality?

5W30 Castrol Dino. Or, 5W30 Mobil 1 Syn. or Castrol Syntec 0W30 from Autozone.
Try Chevron Techron as a fuel add.

so there's nothing good to put in the oil resevoir as an additive? the chevron stuff you mentioned was for the fuel right?

Amsoil 5w30 in my opinion. I wasnt sure if this question was asked for the weight and grade of oil, or for what brand, so i listed both

I perfer amsoil 10w30 but I use Mobil 1 & their filter also. Chevron Techron is probally the the best injector cleaner on tne market,no problems for 150+++ miles

there us no benefit to 10w30 over 5w30. they are both 30 weight at the same operating temp. the is a downside to 10w30 vs 5w30 or 0w30 at cold startup however. it is much thicker when cold and takes longer to pump through. want to test? go buy a bottle of each and leave it in a freezer for 5 hours. then shake the bottle. any of the 0w30's would be best for a winter in kingston NY. Synthetics are a bit thinner than dino's so they will flow better. my ranking...Castrol 0w30 (only the one made in germany at auto zone) > and for me a toss up between the Mobil1, Amsoil and Penzoil Platium.
