please help: part fell out from under my car... can i still drive it?

i was leaving a friend's place tonight, and as i leveled out as i drove up his steep driveway, i bottomed out in some ice and snow. this part started dragging, and then fell off... it was towards the front, almost between the front two wheels or so.

i have a twenty minute drive to work that involves getting on the highway, and it's imperative that i be there tomorrow. i don't have enough time to research this tonight... will i be ok without this piece, or should i make alternate plans? does anyone know what this is? if i do drive, will i mess up my car? if i'm going to do any more than $100 in damage by driving without this thing, then i need to know. it's some sort of casing or shield.

if you have any wisdom, i'd need it very much preferably tonight or early tomorrow morning. thank you for your help. it will be appreciated.

craig

Just a heat shield, you don't need it
